Accessible Parking

Map of accessible parking spaces and pathways. The closest accessible spaces are in the Patterson Lot and along Broughton Drive; those spaces require B parking permits. There are also metered parking spaces along Hillsborough Street, but those are not marked as accessible spots. There are two accessible entrances to the Hill Library: the one facing Hillsborough Street nearest the intersection with Gardner Street. The other entrance faces the brickyard on the south side of the building.

The Brickyard is currently under construction until through 2026, which might impact access and exit routes around the Hill Library.

Accessible parking spaces

  • East of the building in the Patterson Parking Lot: 4 designated accessible parking spaces. (Campus parking permit required.) 
  • East of the building on Broughton Drive: street parking with one designated accessible parking space. (Campus parking permit required.)

Getting Here by Bus or Pickup

Wolfline Routes

The Wolfline is NC State University’s bus service, free for all to ride. All Libraries facilities are accessible by these buses and have multiple stops in close proximity. All Wolfline buses are equipped with ramps and have kneeling capability to assist those with limited mobility. People with low vision or blindness are encouraged to call Transportation at  919-515-3424 for assistance in utilizing the TransLoc Transit Visualization System (TVS) which provides real-time bus locations along all Wolfline routes.

GoTriangle/GoRaleigh

GoTriangle buses are wheelchair-accessible. "Priority seating" has been designated on all buses. Hearing-impaired individuals can contact GoTriangle through the N.C. Relay Center at 1-800-735-2962 or by dialing 919-485-RIDE (7433). Passengers needing other accomodations can view GoTriangle ACCESS for more information on registration and elgibility.

GoRaleigh buses are wheelchair accessible to serve those with mobility impairments. Buses are also equipped with talking bus technology that provides audible stop information from internal and external speakers. Passengers who are not able to use GoRaleigh buses due to disability may contact GoRaleigh Access, the City’s paratransit program, at (919) 996-3459 for information on eligibility for this service. Please note that the GoTriangle/GoRaleigh routes only go to D. H. Hill Jr. Library. For getting to James B. Hunt Jr Library, please reference the applicable Wolfline route.

Wolfpack Pickup

The Wolfpack Pickup is NC State's reservable golf-cart fleet that can be booked here. Please note that times are dependent on staffing and scheduling. Know that rides must be scheduled at least 6 hours in advance and can be scheduled no more than 14 days in advance. The Wolfpack Pickup request that you only schedule rides you know you will need. Refer to their frequently asked questions for more times, information, and more explainers on the accommodation. Accessible Entrances

Hillsborough Street entrance

The entrance facing Hillsborough Street is on the street level (floor 1) and has automatic doors.

Brickyard entrance

The general entrance facing the Brickyard enters on the ground level (floor G). It has automatic doors. This entrance is not considered ADA-accessible, however. 

The accessible entrance facing the Brickyard enters on the basement level (floor B). It's located at the bottom of a ramp that slopes downward to enter below the general entrance. Inside, an elevator can transport you to floor G.

From the Patterson Lot

  • To use the East Door without an access card: call the Ask Us desk at 919-515-3364, and staff will come open the East Door for you. 
  • To use the East Door entrance yourself: people with disabilities who need to enter the building from Patterson parking lot can apply for an access card to the East Door. This electronic proximity card will temporarily deactivate the lock and alarms. With an access card, you can use a push pad to open the doors for unassisted entry.
  • To get to the Hillsborough Street entrance from the Patterson Lot: Use the ramp on the east side of the Hill Library to get to the sidewalk, then follow the sidewalk along the north side of the building along Founders Drive (immediately south of Hillsborough Street, running parallel to it; not shown on map). The Hillsborough Street entrance is at the northwest corner of the building.
