    Now through the end of August, the Journal of Failure Analysis and Prevention review article “Role of Carbide-Based Thermal-Sprayed Coatings to Prevent Failure for Boiler Steels: A Review” by Kuldeep Kumar, Santosh Kumar, and Harjot Singh Gill is free access for you to download and read. This review paper aims to provide an overview on various surface modification techniques. Thereafter, various erosion, corrosion and oxidation problems in boiler steels are discussed. Then, the role of carbide- and nitride-based thermal-sprayed coating to prevent failure of boiler steels is discussed. Subsequently, the distinct ways to improve the performance of carbide-based coatings are explored. Finally, the effects of post-treatment on the microstructure, mechanical and tribological properties are summarized.     In Memoriam With heavy hearts, the HTS and ASM communities mourn the recent passing of Roger Alan Jones, FASM. Jones, CEO emeritus of Solar Atmospheres Inc., was a pillar of the Heat Treating Society and volunteer leader for ASM International. He served as HTS president 2013-2015 and was an ASM trustee 2016-2019. In 2018 he was elected to the ASM Class of Fellows. His citation read: “For advancing production vacuum thermal processes and procedures for large and heavy assemblies utilizing state of the art vacuum furnaces, for the enhancement of the overall heat treating industry.” In 2015, Jones received the George H. Bodeen Heat Treating Achievement Award. A more complete obituary will be included in a future issue of Advanced Materials & Processes magazine.

    📈 Shape Memory and Superelasticity Editor-in-Chief Huseyin Sehitoglu is pleased to share that the journal's 2023 Impact Factor has increased to 2.6 (up from its first Impact Factor of 2.2 received last year), as announced in the 2024 edition of Journal Citation Reports (JCR) released in June by Clarivate. The journal team extends its congratulations to all contributors for their dedication and effort. This achievement can be attributed to the hard work of the journal editors, reviewers, authors, and editorial committee in acquiring and publishing high-quality impactful content. The journal’s usage increased by 81%, with the annual number of downloads rising dramatically from 82,879 in 2022 to 150,402 in 2023. The Journal Impact Factor is the ratio of last year's citations to articles published in that journal in the two previous years. This issue, scheduled to be published in 2025, will feature original research and review articles related to archaeometallurgy and the historical applications of metals and metallurgical materials; the articles will also fit within the journal’s broad scope of metallographic/microstructural analysis and materials characterization.
