Ellen’s Journey to Independence: A Senior Success Story Ellen arrived at Alhambra Nursing and Rehab after hip surgery left her extremely weak. Initially, she required a hoyer lift for transfers, needed maximum assistance with all activities of daily living and had a weight-bearing precaution. However, with the dedicated support of our incredible therapy team—Sheina, Megan, Lori, Doug, Tab, and Toni—Ellen has made a remarkable recovery! Today, Ellen is walking up to 300 feet with a rollator walker, completing her transfers with supervision, managing her ADLs independently, and can fully bear weight. Her transformation has been nothing short of inspiring! Ellen’s positive spirit left a lasting impression on the residents and staff at Alhambra. Seeing her walk out the doors to return home to her husband of 70 years brought tears of joy to everyone. When Richard arrived at Rolling Rivers, he relied on a wheelchair and frequent caregiver assistance due to weakness and limited endurance. Despite the challenges, Richard was determined to regain his independence. With the help of our dedicated PT, OT, and ST teams, Richard made incredible progress. Physical Therapy helped him build strength and transition from a wheelchair to using a walker. Occupational Therapy focused on daily living activities, ensuring he could manage tasks at home. Speech Therapy improved his memory and communication skills. Thanks to his hard work, support from his therapists, and encouragement from his wife, Richard achieved his goal of returning home.
