About us
What is Flatiron? We’re more than a construction company. We are an organization of some 3,500 people with diverse backgrounds and varied expertise who share a singular focus on enhancing the well-being of people and communities. We bring together industry-leading engineers, highly skilled craft workers and other professionals to deliver innovative solutions to infrastructure challenges across the U.S. and Canada. Flatiron builds highways and bridges; aviation, rail and transit; dams and water treatment facilities; and underground projects that fuel local economies, improve safety and enhance efficiency. Flatiron engineers harness the art and science of structural design to create solutions that are as beautiful as they are functional. Our craft employees and on-site leaders bring vital experience to each project to turn vision into reality. And our project leaders collaborate with project owners to deliver solutions that meet challenging criteria—safely—while at the same time mitigating risk for all those involved. Beyond safely delivering outstanding projects, Flatiron people demonstrate a commitment to ongoing learning, sustainability, our clients and partners, and the communities where we live and work. We build careers. We hire and advance the best engineers, craft workers and other professionals in our industry. We transform infrastructure.

Taking on the toughest challenges for our communities. At Flatiron, we pride ourselves on tackling projects that make a real difference. Our IH-820 East Loop project, identified as one of Texas' worst "choke points," is a prime example. Since 2018, we've worked hard to improve this critical five-mile stretch of highway near Fort Worth. Highlights include widened lanes and 15 new or upgraded bridges designed to enhance safety and keep traffic flowing efficiently. The project is on track for completion later this year, marking a significant milestone in our commitment to community improvement. Join a team committed to community improvement. Our team loves a challenge...even in the name of a bit of fun! In honor of our 77th anniversary, we asked our employees to submit their favorite pictures from years past. It’s been a fantastic nearly 80 years of serving great communities, and we look forward to the path ahead. 🏗️ Flatiron logo circa 1983 - Thank you Bob Laws! 🏗️ 2002 image of the Carquinez Bridge team in Contra Costa, Calif. Thank you Adrian Price, PE! 🏗️ Getting our statement of qualification ready for delivery at our Broomfield, Colo., corporate headquarters in 2018. According to Ashley T., several co-workers assisted our Proposals team in preparing the lengthy handouts. They say you only live once, but at Flatiron’s I-80 Yolo Corridor Improvements project, we’re giving a vital roadway a second life. Flatiron recently completed a major traffic switch, poured two top decks and produced more than 24,000 cubic yards of concrete pavement. The I-80 Yolo corridor is a vital link between San Francisco, Sacramento and beyond. When finished, the project will include widening two bridges, modifying two others and rehabilitating more than 10 miles of roadway. Additionally, state-of-the-art traffic monitoring and traveler information systems will ensure more efficient traffic flow, supporting environmental sustainability. Three overcrossings along the California High-Speed Rail route in the Central Valley are complete and open to the public. The Flatiron joint venture with Dragados USA, Inc. manufactured all 47 pre-cast concrete girders at its nearby Hanford, California, facility. These impressive structures will carry traffic over future high-speed rail tracks. The 40+ foot wide overcrossings at Flint Avenue, Mountain View Avenue and Floral Avenue have spans ranging from 205 feet to 381 feet. Beyond the 47 girders, the overcrossings required more than 3,800 cubic yards of concrete and more than 500 tons of steel. The HSR Construction Package 2-3 extends approximately 65 miles from Fresno to the Tulare-Kern County line and includes approximately 36 grade separations, including viaducts, underpasses and overpasses. Our summer interns in Northern California are not only gaining valuable on-the-job experience at our project sites but also having fun while learning! They recently took part in a two-day playhouse build event, honing essential skills such as following instructions, measuring and teamwork, all under the guidance of two experienced carpenters. Our interns selected themes for their playhouses then painted and decorated them. Our leaders provided assistance and taught them how to safely use power tools. 🏠🎨 These playhouses will be distributed to various organizations within the communities where we live and work. Check out their incredible work! Today, Flatiron Senior Vice President Jim Schneiderman, P.E. joined Amtrak CEO Stephen Gardner, leaders from Maryland Department of Transportation and joint-venture partner Herzog to celebrate the start of the Susquehanna River Bridge Replacement project. The Susquehanna River Rail Bridge is a vital throughway that supports more than 100 daily Amtrak, Maryland Area Regional Commuter and Norfolk Southern Railway passenger and freight trains. Currently, trains must slow to 90 mph when crossing the bridge, creating capacity and reliability constraints. Construction includes replacing the 117-year-old structure to improve speed and safety on the Northeast Corridor. Once completed, this project will boost capacity, reduce trip times and most importantly, enhance safety for riders.
