About us
We provide safe, cost-effective transportation for Illinois in ways that enhance the quality of life, promote economic prosperity, and demonstrate respect for the environment. At IDOT, we strongly believe in the importance of supporting the transportation industry’s future. This industry includes the transportation workforce outside of IDOT, as well as IDOT employees. We cannot effectively do our jobs, if the industry is not equipped with the ready, willing, and able workforce that it needs.

Today marks the beginning of National Construction Suicide Prevention Week. Did you know the construction industry has one of the highest suicide rates compared to other industries? One of our greatest assets is the people behind the machines, and their well-being is paramount. Mental health isn't just a choice; it's a necessity. Together we can create a culture that values the minds and hearts of those behind our projects and who keep Illinois moving. The 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline is a free, confidential, 24/7, phone line that connects individuals in crisis with trained counselors across the United States. You can call or text 988 for yourself - or if you are worried about a loved one who may need support.
