Last but certainly not least, let's meet the person who put together this week of content: Caroline Carney! Caroline is a student at University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and served as our communications intern this summer, coordinating and collecting submissions for the intern takeover that ran this week on our social media profiles, among other projects. Caroline assisted with the distribution of our Sustainability Report, created toolkits for our teams, and wrote and researched four articles published in our internal newsletter. Although the size and scope of this new role was initially overwhelming, Caroline rose to the challenge by taking notes, proactively doing research on unknown topics, and asking questions with the intent to receive constructive and productive feedback. Caroline recommends that new interns take time at the beginning of their internship to meet as many people as possible—especially other interns! Having a community of other college students is such a blessing and makes the summer lots of fun, she adds. Caroline intends to apply the new skills she’s learned to her senior year classes at UTK, saying: “Going into this internship, I was hoping to improve on my technology skills, as well as my communication skills in a corporate setting. This internship has provided me with opportunities to improve upon both.”

Meet Nathan Bernard! Nathan is a rising junior at Ole Miss majoring in Mechanical Engineering, and he is currently serving as a summer intern on our Logistics team in Global Supply Chain! Although Nathan has participated in projects involving data analysis and automated reporting, his primary responsibility has been managing inventory in the mills. One of Nathan’s favorite experiences at IP was when the Memphis-based interns volunteered at a local food bank. This event was incredibly rewarding to Nathan, and he believes that it “enhanced [the interns’] collaboration skills outside of the office setting.” Nathan values the teamwork aspects of his role and is grateful to IP for “making it a priority for all of the interns to get to know one another.” Thank you to the Supply Chain team for creating an inviting environment for Nathan! We are so grateful to have him on the IP team!

Meet Alexandra Kisielewski! Alexandra is a student at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and she is an HR intern this summer at the Flint River Mill in Oglethorpe, Georgia! Alexandra heard about IP from some friends at UTK. After doing some research she found that she resonated with our core values, and she knew that IP was where she wanted to spend her summer. Alexandra diligently assists the HR team with administrative tasks, supports various people initiatives and learns about the HR policies and procedures at the Flint River Mill. Alexandra’s favorite aspects about her internship are working on the 1:1 process for both hourly and salary employees and creating a quarterly HR newsletter that is being used to distribute information directly from HR to employees in the field. If Alexandra could give one piece of advice to new interns and co-ops at IP, it would be for them to proactively build relationships in the workplace and to absorb all of the knowledge that is being given to them. We are so grateful to have Alexandra on our team at the Flint River Mill!

Meet Matthew Bare! Matthew is a rising junior majoring in mechanical engineering at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, and he is a REACH intern at the Newport Mill in Cayuga, Indiana! Matthew specializes in maintenance and reliability and is working on several different projects involving standardizing lubrication routes and creating checklists for ensuring safety when starting up and shutting down the mill. Matthew believes the REACH program at IP compliments his coursework at school because he is gaining hands-on experience completing the types of projects he studies in class. He values the critical thinking skills that he has acquired throughout his time at IP and is looking forward to applying those skills back to the classroom as he finishes his degree. We are so grateful to have Matthew on our Newport Mill team this summer!

Meet Anabelle Lawson! Anabelle is a rising junior at Mississippi State University and is currently taking on the role of an Industrial Packaging Replenishment Planner Fall Co-op at the IP Global Headquarters in Memphis, TN! Anabelle works closely with IP plants’ production schedulers so she can ensure they are properly supplied with paper. Anabelle’s favorite part about her role is when she gets to address problems that come her way because she likes how they are comparable to puzzles in need of solving. If she could give one piece of advice to new interns and co-ops at IP it would be to ask questions early and take every moment to learn about their department and the other businesses and departments throughout IP. We are so lucky to have Anabelle on our supply chain team!
