❗ Jury Duty Phone Scam Alert ❗ In this phone scam, the caller claims to work for the county sheriff's office, or states they are a sergeant or court staff, and tells the person they did not report for jury duty and there is a bench warrant for their arrest. The scammer's phone number may appear legitimate because the caller has manipulated the number to appear to be from the sheriff's or court's telephone line. The caller may demand payment over the phone through a mobile payment application such as Cash App® or Zelle®. The caller may ask the person to turn themselves in at the sheriff's office after visiting a grocery store, Walmart, or CVS to purchase a "money pack" – a type of prepaid credit card. The scammer may ask the person to dial a specific telephone number and provide the digits on the money pack for the payment to be made and the fine settled. This phone call is a scam, hang up. Do not provide any information. Maryland Courts, Sheriff’s Offices, and Jury Offices do not call citizens to get payment over the phone for a fine for missing jury duty and they do not take payments through a machine for missing jury duty. https://lnkd.in/eX3y53E3

What is the difference between an interpreter and a translator? An interpreter works with the spoken word and provides an oral rendition of a unit of speech from the source language into the target language. A translator places documents into the target language in writing. #FactFriday For more information on the Maryland Court Interpreter Program visit: https://lnkd.in/e-qC6gg3

Learn more about Susan Gralla: I celebrated my 10th anniversary with the Maryland Judiciary in May. I was a District Court Commissioner for the first three years of my tenure and have been with the Internal Audit Department for the last seven. As part of the internal audit function, my position entails reviewing court records for compliance to determine if the clerk’s offices are following policies, procedures, and leading practices. Our team also conducts internal audits of the Administrative Office of the Courts grant receiving entities and other departments of the Judiciary. A positive aspect of my position is the people with whom I am in contact regularly to keep the process proceeding, such as team members, courthouse personnel, and other Judiciary employees. Auditing itself is varied in people and locations which keeps it stimulating and interesting. I was relatively new to Maryland when I accepted the position and traveling across Maryland for audit purposes has given me exposure to every corner of my adopted home. MDEC is officially live across the state, so travel is now of limited duration. Our team strives for the auditees to realize our goal of adding value to their business practices by helping to identify gaps and supporting internal reviews to improve their practices, as well as positive affirmation which generates confidence. I like to think we develop beneficial relationships with our clients. The internal auditor position lends itself to life-work balance The Maryland Judiciary has been forward-thinking with regards to telework and alternate work schedules. Flexibility is one of the attractive benefits of working for the Maryland Judiciary Internal Audit Department. Something unique about me is that I drive a MINI Cooper with several local and national clubs. This hobby is conducive to navigating the roads less traveled in both Maryland and across the country. I have been to forty-nine 49 of the 50 United States. The only one outstanding is the one to which I cannot drive.
