  • #NationalFireNews: As of 7:30 a.m. (MDT) today, August 22, 2024, the national #PreparednessLevel has decreased to four (PL4). While wildland fire activity continues across multiple geographic areas of the country, we have seen a notable decrease in initial attack and large fire growth in most of those areas over the last week. The National Interagency Coordination Center (NICC) has also seen a significant decrease in the ordering of all resource types and an increase in the availability of nationally shared resources for several days. • #NationalFireNews: August 23, 2024. Right now, 56 large active wildfires are being managed with full suppression strategies nationwide. These wildfires have burned 2,060,058 acres. About 18,900 wildland firefighters and support personnel are assigned to wildfires, including 21 complex and 2 Type 1 incident management teams, 450 crews, 760 engines, 107 helicopters, and four Modular Airborne Fire Fighting Systems, or MAFFS. If your weekend plans include getting out and enjoying our public lands, it is critical for you to be fire safe. Have spark arresters on equipment and vehicles like chain saws, motorcycles and all-terrain vehicles. Exhaust systems on any vehicle can easily ignite vegetation, so drive and park in designated areas keeping off and away from dry grass and brush. Taking these simple steps can keep you and our natural resources from going up in smoke. During #FireYear2024, 31,400 wildfires have burned 5,426,565 acres. Of these, more than 26,600 wildfires were started by people, and have burned 3.3 million acres. Lightning has ignited about 4,300 wildfires, burning nearly 2.1 million acres. Sixty fireline management personnel from Australia and New Zealand are assigned to support large fires in the Northwest Area. • On Saturday, August 17, we welcomed the 14th Brigade Engineer Battalion from Joint Base Lewis-McChord to NIFC in Boise, Idaho. They arrived in multiple groups on the National Interagency Coordination Center (NICC) jet. Shortly after their arrival, they were off to support wildland fire operations on the Boise and Payette National Forests. After receiving firefighting training, they were embedded into crews to support suppression operations with mop-up, holding and maintaining control of the fireline, and installing hose-lays and other equipment needed. We are grateful for the interagency agreement with the United States Department of Defense that allows them to provide firefighting support to our wildland fire management agencies. Thank you for your service and stay safe! More on military support ➡ https://lnkd.in/gtqU7yzJ 📸 Photo 1&2 by Andrea Good, BLM. Photo 3 by Kerry Greene, USFS. • #NationalFireNews: August 20, 2024. As of this morning, 59 large active wildfires are being managed with full suppression strategies nationwide. Current wildfires have burned 2,249,946 acres. Drone incursions over wildfires continue to rise. So far this year, 16 incursions were reported, and air operations were shut down eight times. When firefighting aircraft are grounded because of an unauthorized drone, our personnel lose access to a valuable resource which can affect the safety and efficiency of the overall suppression efforts. Flying a drone near a wildfire puts lives at risk. Please #KnowBeforeYouFly and help keep our wildland firefighters in the air and on the ground safe. 21,812 wildland firefighters and support personnel are assigned to wildfires, including 20 complex and 3 Type 1 incident management teams, 501 crews, 926 engines, 126 helicopters, and four Modular Airborne Fire Fighting Systems, or MAFFS. During #FireYear2024, 31,043 wildfires have burned 5.4 million acres. More than 26,600 wildfires were started by people and they burned 3.3 million acres. Lightning ignited about 4,300 wildfires, burning nearly 2.1 million acres. More NFN: https://lnkd.in/gTj5mZB #FireYear2024 📸 Photo from InciWeb on the #LimepointFire in Idaho.

  • #NationalFireNews: August 16, 2024. Fire suppression efforts in southwest Idaho are receiving additional support from the United States Department of Defense. On August 6, the National Multi-Agency Coordinating Group (NMAC) requested for a half battalion of active-duty military personnel to assist with fires on the USDA Forest Service Boise National Forest and Payette National Forest. Over 250 active-duty personnel with the 14th Brigade Engineer Battalion at Joint Base Lewis-McChord will be mobilized with firefighting protective gear from the National Interagency Fire Center, in Boise, Idaho on Saturday, August 17, 2024. These military firefighters will be deployed as ten 20-person hand crews and have advance training with the Mark Twain National Forest Veteran Crew and the Bureau of Land Management - Nevada Vegas Valley Veterans Crew. Both federal hand crews are specialized type 2 initial attack hand crews, staffed with prior military personnel. Following training, the ten military hand crews will be assigned with the two initial attack hand crews and additional fireline leadership for up to 30 days on fires in southwest Idaho. As of this morning, 63 large active wildfires are being managed with full suppression strategies nationwide. Current wildfires have burned 2,216,670 acres. About 24.000 wildland firefighters and support personnel are assigned to wildfires, including 23 complex and 5 Type 1 incident management teams, 540 crews, 1,134 engines, 132 helicopters, and four Modular Airborne Fire Fighting Systems, or MAFFS. • #NationalFireNews: August 15, 2024. As of this morning, 67 large active wildfires are being managed with full suppression strategies nationwide. Current wildfires have burned 2,271,843 acres. About 25,400 wildland firefighters and support personnel are assigned to wildfires, including 23 complex and 5 Type 1 incident management teams, 565 crews, 1,274 engines, 129 helicopters, and four Modular Airborne Fire Fighting Systems, or MAFFS. Sixty fireline management personnel from Australia and New Zealand are assigned to support large fires in the Northwest Area. During #FireYear2024, 29,917 wildfires have burned 5,382,815 acres in the United States. This is about one million acres above the 10-year average number of acres burned. As wildfires continue to threaten communities and natural landscapes, it's crucial that we all do our part to prevent new fires from starting. The majority of wildfires are human-caused, which means they are avoidable. By staying vigilant and making responsible choices, we can all help protect our communities and preserve our beautiful landscapes from devastating wildfires. Remember, it only takes a single spark to start a wildfire, but together, we can prevent them. #ItTakesAllOfUs 🔥 More NFN: https://lnkd.in/gTj5mZB #FireYear2024 📸 All photos from InciWeb. As wildfires continue to threaten communities and natural landscapes, it's crucial that we all do our part to prevent new fires from starting. Remember, it only takes a single spark to start a wildfire, but together, we can prevent them. Evacuation orders are in effect on 16 wildfires. If you're in an area threatened by wildfires, your safety is the top priority. When evacuation orders are issued, it's crucial to act quickly and follow the guidance of local authorities. Remember, your safety and the safety of your loved ones is what matters most. Trust the experts, follow evacuation orders, and stay safe.
