An Edutopia - George Lucas Educational Foundation article explores an approach to handling challenging student behaviors by adopting a more curious and empathetic approach. Sarah Wysocki shares an alternative to enforcing rules using stern directives that include genuine questions about their actions. This method helped Wysocki better understand student behaviors, defuse potential power struggles, and foster meaningful conversations. By addressing minor infractions with curiosity and empathy, she found that students were likely to follow the rules and felt more understood and valued. This approach promotes a more positive classroom environment where social and emotional learning is prioritized and relationships are strengthened.
