You’re having trouble communicating with your team during virtual meetings. What tools can help?
I would encourage the use of the camera, always! Nothing worse than talking to a black screen. I like platforms like teams, zoom or google meets that allow for 1-1 interactions, drawing and emoji reactions! It all starts by you taking the first step in making it a welcoming environment and making it fun when virtual.

How can you network effectively in Oil and Gas as an introvert?
Networking is KEY!! Not enough people understand the importance of meeting and greeting people at different industry events and even in your own company. The saying, its not what you know but who you know… really is true! I didn’t understand the impact of networking to grow your career, get new roles, get new opportunities, etc early on but now, I know how critical it is to one’s career journey. I encourage everyone to go to multiple events, shake some hands and you never know who you’ll meet and how they’ll change your journey!

You want to create a more diverse and inclusive workplace. How can you make sure everyone feels welcome?
You can create an inclusive workforce by cultivating the right culture, in which employees can feel safe to speak up and voice their concerns or opinions. Feedback is crucial, you can’t get it all right from the start, it’s a work in progress. Employees feel the most included when they can be their authentic selves and when they can push back on initiatives / ideas from leadership without the fear of retaliation. Being open and transparent with employees is key!

How can oil and gas companies create a diverse and inclusive workplace culture?
In my experience, having a diverse and inclusive culture is key to a high performing organization. I am the most engaged and the highest performer when I feel like I am part of the team/family. I feel part of the team, when my management has strong EQ and IQ. When you can truly be yourself, no mask on, it’s when you know you’re in the right team and right company. I think companies can continue to nurture their DE&I culture by focusing on team building events, living their culture, walking the talk, training managers on how to be better leaders, create ERGs,etc.
