Temporary Producer, On the Media
The On the Media team is seeking a temporary producer from the end of July 2024 through mid-February 2024. Reporting to the executive producer of On the Media, the producer is open to creative thinking, team effort, and is committed to developing strong communication within the show, across the organization and with external contributors. The ideal temporary producer has sound editorial/reporting experience and excellent communication skills. OTM’s temporary producer will demonstrate fearlessness in pursuit of information, ability to work under pressure, strong instincts for gathering great tape, an inquisitive and active mind, and an ability to work in a tightly-knit team on quick deadlines.
The temporary producer will work closely with the hosts, and producers to make the weekly radio program and podcasts.
An On The Media temporary producer is a self-starter; and thrives in a collaborative, creative and efficient work environment.
Job responsibilities include:
This is a temporary full-time non-exempt role from July 29, 2024-February 14, 2025 with a rate of $45.8791 per hour ($83,500 annualized). This role also includes eligibility for medical, dental and vision insurance through SAG-AFTRA, as well as accrued sick time and vacation time.
This role is based in NYC and operates in a hybrid capacity with an expectation of being in office/studio 2 days per week.
This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement between New York Public Radio and SAG-AFTRA.

- pitching and producing pieces
- Taking on an active role in On the Media staff meetings
- Resourceful producing – ability to make connections between stories and anticipate production obstacles
- Researching story ideas at high level and without supervision
- Pre-interviewing and booking potential guests
- Writing and editing material and preparing audio for broadcast
- Assist during tapings and digital audio production for the show
- 3-5 years of experience producing narrative or reported content
- Demonstrated strong news writing ability
- Excellent verbal and written communication
- Sound organizational skills, with great attention to detail
- Extensive research skills
- Ability to meet objectives under deadline pressure
- Requires ability to work in a group environment, give and take direction
- Digital audio editing experience
