Ever taken on a community management role that sounded perfect on paper, only to find out the community's needs and dynamics were far more complex? Job descriptions often highlight ideal responsibilities, skills, and community engagement, but the actual role can be a different story. In reality, community management involves navigating unexpected conflicts, understanding member needs, and reading between the lines of community interactions. It requires adaptability, empathy, and a willingness to learn and grow alongside the community. Remember, job descriptions are just a starting point. To truly succeed in community management, be prepared to ask questions, seek clarification, and stay flexible during the hiring process. Stay open-minded, and be willing to evolve your approach as the community grows and changes. By doing so, you'll be well on your way to building and nurturing vibrant, engaged communities that flourish under your care. #CommunityManagement #JobDescription #CommunityBuilding

Community is something that can touch every part of an organization. Prepare your talking points not only for community but also how it helps the rest of your organization.
Community at Square | Maximizing ROI through strategic community building. | Writer, speaker, husband, brother, dog dad, and sometimes a DJ
As community managers, we often wear multiple hats and we also come from all different types of backgrounds and experiences. If a layoff in this space has impacted you, I wrote about ways that we can leverage and talk about our experiences for new roles across different departments. - Talk about how you helped with community growth and awareness for marketing roles. - Talk about how you reduced community members from churning and increased renewals for customer success roles. - Talk about how you created and launched a new initiative sticking to budget and timelines for project management roles. Our skill set is transferable and valuable, and if you see roles that you're interested in without 'community' in the title, know that you have the experience to get you there. #community #communitymanager #generalist

There’s no ONE way to do community engagement, and there’s no one job title for a journalist who is also a community engagement practitioner. What’s the difference between an engagement editor and a producer? Or an engagement specialist? Or a reporter? What do any of these things mean? This “community engagement industry” is in its early stages, and is just beginning to define these jobs. That's good, right? Because you have a lot of freedom to define things yourself. It can also be overwhelming. Instead of starting with the job title, ask yourself: What do you need this person to do?

Hello my LinkedIn community! So, I've been on the job hunt, and honestly, it's like searching for pirate's treasure in Atlantis. And then that treasure is Excaliber or Mjölnir 🧐 But hey, what's a good adventure without a challenge, right? If you happen to know any nonprofits or social enterprises with an opening (specifically in an executive leadership or director role), please send them my way! My playground? Communications, Marketing, Operations (HR, not so much), and let's not forget Brand Development & Strategy. I thrive in the realm of Project Management and love a good spreadsheet! (Yeah...I just saw that) 🙃 And adding to this hopefully extremely interesting story, I've not only run a nonprofit in the past but have also helped build several organizations from the ground up. Currently, I'm weaving my magic as a consultant, bringing my unique blend of skills and experience to the table to help purpose-driven organizations increase their impact. I'm dreaming of a remote gig, but, I won't turn down a little hybrid action in the Boston area. Know of something cool? Drop me a line, tag a friend, or send good vibes my way. Let's turn this job search into a success story! #JobSearch #NonprofitLife #BostonOpportunities #RemoteWork

Senior community builder | Partnerships | Events | Strategy | Builder of meaningful collaborative communities
Whilst I wait for my ideal role to pop up, I'm opening myself up to temporary opportunities. Do you, or someone you know, want a consultant to help on any/all of these things? 🏗 Community building support: Including support in creating a sustainable community strategy, strategic partnerships, event production and online facilitation (but not social media, sorry); 🌍 Strategies to expand away from the ‘usual subjects’ and inviting more perspectives into the fold (the buzzword here is inclusion, but I specifically also care about attraction AND retention); 🐲 Authentic and engaging communication: How can you sound more like yourself, find your voice, and go beyond what you are told to be like or talk about online?; 🤓 Community research and co-design: How can you build your idea WITH people, for the people, so they will actually use it? If any of these resonate, or you see a temp opportunity I might like, please send it my way :) Here's a pic of me 'shooting my shot' for the algorithm (is it a metaphor?) I managed to shoot a fake deer smack bang on the nose. Wahey!
