DQAsomes for Drug Delivery. Weissig et al. prepared DQAsomes in 1998, consisting of cationic vesicles with dequinonium chloride (DQA). DQAsomes attract DNA and protect it from degradation. DQA accumulates preferentially in mitochondria due to differences in electrochemical gradients between mitochondrial membranes and membranes of other organelles. Therefore, DQAsomes can be used as vectors to deliver DNA fragments to mitochondria in living cells. #biology #biotech #drugdelivery #biotechnology #biopharmaceuticals https://www.g-biotec.com/

I’m pleased to share our recent paper entitled “Machine Learning of Raman Spectra Predicts Drug Release from Polysaccharide Coatings for Targeted Colonic Delivery”. In this study, we investigated how ML can improve the development of colonic drug delivery systems for inflammatory bowel disease. Our research explores how Raman spectra can be used to characterise polysaccharides for drug coatings aimed at targeted colonic delivery. By applying ML techniques, we aimed to streamline the selection process for these materials and predict their performance more efficiently. Key points from our work include: 🔬 Utilising Raman spectra as features for ML to predict drug release profiles. 📊 Successfully validating our models with new polysaccharide coatings. 🔍 Gaining insights into the chemical properties that affect a polysaccharide’s suitability for colonic drug delivery. This approach could significantly improve the efficiency of developing targeted drug delivery systems and offer a new perspective on material selection. 😯Seminar this Thursday😯computer-aided drug design (CADD)😯 🧬Accelerating Antibiotic Drug Design with Computational Approaches💻 In the quest for innovative antibiotic therapies, computational approaches have become invaluable tools for interpreting and guiding experiments. Two primary types of computer-aided drug design (CADD) methods—Structure-Based Drug Design (SBDD) and Ligand-Based Drug Design (LBDD)—are at the forefront of this revolution. 🔍 Structure-Based Drug Design (SBDD): - Utilizes 3D structural information of macromolecular targets, like proteins or RNA. - Identifies key sites and interactions essential for biological functions. - Aims to design drugs that disrupt vital interactions, thwarting microorganism survival. 🔬 Ligand-Based Drug Design (LBDD): - Focuses on known antibiotic ligands and their relationship with physiochemical properties. - Establishes structure-activity relationships (SAR) to optimize existing drugs. - Guides the design of new drugs with enhanced activity. #DrugDiscovery #Antibiotics #CADD #SBDD #LBDD #Pharmaceuticals #Innovation #ComputationalBiology #SAR #PharmaTech #BiomedicalResearch #MolecularModeling #DrugRepurposing #ClinicalTrials

❓ “Recently, regulatory authorities asked my company to document that downstream purification of our biologic reduces specific enzymes added during process development. Is there a reproducible method that detects process-related impurities down to low ppm levels?” ❗ Yes! SWATH mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) is a highly sensitive and reproducible approach that can identify and quantify residual proteins through all purification steps, including the final drug product. You can use SWATH LC-MS to track specific residuals throughout the entire process development, compare batches, and perform quality control after upscaling. A process-specific assay can be developed within just a few weeks, and the high sensitivity makes it possible to quantify impurities even at low ppm levels. This approach is ideal for analyzing process-related residuals in biologics development and is increasingly important to FDA and EMA. ⬇️ Read this blog post by Ejvind Mørtz to learn more about this game-changing method for residual protein analysis. ⬇️
