This year is the 70th anniversary of the landmark Brown v. Board decision (1954) and its fight for desegregation in schools. While progress has been made, significant challenges remain. Desegregation efforts faced roadblocks, leaving the promise of Brown largely unfulfilled. But the fight for educational equity continues. At CNE, we champion nonprofits working to close the achievement gap and dismantle systemic barriers. Together, let's build on the legacy of Brown v. Board to ensure ALL students have access to a quality, equitable education. https://buff.ly/454Digg

United students learn quickly that effective congregational ministry, leadership, advocacy, and art is rarely a one-person job. As any organizer or activist will tell you, collaboration is at the heart of meaningful justice work. Peace is a multi-party affair. Just as a professor might task students with a group project, our alums are tasked with pursuing their distinct vocational paths as collaborators—co-conspirators in the transformative effort toward justice and peace. From fellow alums to members of our faculty, administrators, ministers, staff, and trustees, there is no shortage of voices in our over six decades of history calling for a transformed society. In the spirit of collaboration and our shared pursuit of the greater good, this year, we are honoring "Many Voices United for Justice and Peace." Whose voice has transformed you, your congregation, or your community? Whose voice has stirred your convictions and encouraged you to take action? Whose voice has given you a new perspective or changed your mind? Whose voice has comforted or guided you? Whose voice has affirmed your calling? As names come to mind, we invite you to give in their honor or memory. Through June 30, a generous alum will be matching all gifts up to $25,000. Any gift you make to the United Fund will have double the impact, ensuring United’s future is bright and secure. Visit https://buff.ly/3QSG01S to double your gift today.

Multi year funding is so important for the sustainability of the sector, it provides security and enables charities to focus on what they do best. Making the same organisations submit so many applications for small amounts of short term funding is not going to achieve the impact or systemic social change required. I also would like to see funders push beyond 3 yr funding cycles and consider 5 or more as a norm.
Grant-making contacts - do take a look at this research from Institute For Voluntary Action Research on the value of multi-year funding. The findings (that multi-year funding builds trust, provides stability, aids forwards planning, and supports learning and improvements in practice) chime closely with our own experiences at Berkeley Foundation with longer term funding partnerships of 3 years+

I'm peer-reviewed published! Honored to have been invited to write a short contribution reflecting on the field of Mind, Brain, and Education (MBE). It's particularly a privilege to co-author with these MBE giants, several of whom taught and mentored me during graduate school. My piece offers a philanthropic birds-eye perspective of the thought leaders and Porticus partners who are bridging the gap between learning sciences and policy and practice: that all children are born with brains that are ready to learn, that learning depends on conditions in the environment, and that we must design care and educational settings that enable children to thrive. https://lnkd.in/enyxAB3a

Happy #GivingTuesday ! Please consider celebrating this year by donating to PSU’s Graduate and Professional Student Association (GPSA). This GivingTuesday, we are aiming to be able to develop internally by raising funds to create more opportunities for GPSA to support graduate students. We currently do not receive enough funds to be able to fully support the requests of student groups coming to us for co-sponsorship. We are working to expand our ability to offer integrated salaried positions to enable our student members to be supported for all of the work that they do. We have started work toward an initiative to train students to work as medical and legal interpreters for our legal, medical, and psychological clinics. Our long-term goal is to start being able to offer a childcare grant for graduate, professional, and medical students who are traveling for their research. We also want to create a Penn State Grad School publication, where we would be able to present the work of our students. GPSA is the longest-running student governing body here at Penn State, established 73 years ago. When you give to GPSA, your tax-deductible donation will go to support events that develop bonds and promote networking within the graduate and professional student communities. GPSA believes that We Are better together, and we work to build a better tomorrow for all graduate and professional students. https://lnkd.in/dG_GRKJW

All qualified organizations seeking to become adult day services providers, as well as existing adult day services providers seeking to expand their services, are eligible to apply for the available grant funds, which are being offered by the Ohio Office of Budget and Management (OBM) at the direction of ODA. Successful applicants will be eligible to spend their funding in multiple areas. New adult day services providers or those re-entering the market can use these funds for equipment, supplies, start-up fees, or infrastructure modifications required for initial operations. Existing adult day services providers can use these funds to enhance service delivery by adding new benefits not previously offered. They can also use the funds to support long-term sustainment in the industry. This could include equipment or facility upgrades to accommodate a larger capacity served, as well as technology implementation and other efficiency efforts. Providers can also use funds to recruit and retain a qualified workforce – including through means such as offering current staff a retention bonus, offering new staff a hiring bonus, hiring new direct care workers, and recruiting new direct care workers. Interested organizations can apply through the OBM website. Successful applicants will be eligible for technical assistance support, provided by LeadingAge Ohio in collaboration with ODA. For more information, visit aging.ohio.gov/adultday 😊💙❤️💜💚
