Director Safari Investment Advisory, non-executive director immedia ecosystem, Rhino Revolution, The Metapopulation Initiative
Safari Investment Advisory safari rule 19: Elevating the Safari Experience - a hospitality focussed lodge - is not a wildlife focussed safari If senior staff are selected for hospitality experience & formal training, this risks the wildlife experience becomes secondary, compromising the overall safari experience. For instance, exceptional wildlife sightings might be cut short to accommodate culinary demands. In our experience, guests have never prioritised a great meal over an active wild dog hunt or other captivating wildlife actions. Bing again struggling with invented species and relative proportions!! #safari #safariphotography #safariadventure

We've had so much fun this last week participating in the 10th Aussie Bird Count!. Thousands of citizen scientists and bird nerds (just like us) from across Australia contributed over 105,000 bird checklists, and sighted over 662 bird species with 3,721,952 birds sighted from the 16-22 October 2023. That's massive! Although our contribution was small by comparison, to us they give a bit of insight into the bird species that we are seeing at present in Wolgan Valley post the bushfires of 2019/2020. Over seven days we submitted 9 checklists, with 47 species sighted and a total of 705 birds recorded. The most common species that we encountered was none other than the rambunctious Noisy Friarbird (111), followed by the Australian Wood Duck (58), and the Noisy Miner (57). We were even lucky enough to encounter five threatened bird species including the vulnerably-listed Little Eagle (1), Scarlet Robin (1), Diamond Firetail (15), Dusky Woodswallow ( 8 ) and Gang-gang Cockatoo (1). Our counts along with the 105,000 checklists submitted by you will help BirdLife Australia researchers better understand the birds we share our lives with and how their populations are changing. We'd love to know, did you participate in the Aussie Bird Count? What birds did you see in your neck of the woods? and what was your highlight of the 10th Aussie Bird Count? Comment below or tag us in your post. #WolganValley #WiradjuriCountry #SevenValleys #LithgowRegion #CentralNSW #GreaterBlueMountains #VisitBlueMountains #FeelNSW #GuidedWalks #WildlifeTours #BirdwatchingTours #Ecotourism #AussieBirdCount #AustralianBirds

Hāhālua (manta ray) viewing tours and the extractive aquarium pet trade exemplify the need to protect and enforce Native Hawaiian constitutional rights. Commercial manta ray “tours” have become popular visitor attractions at Keauhou and Makako Bay. DLNR recently proposed rules restricting the community from fishing in these areas to promote tourist activities violating Native Hawaiian gathering rights. The aquarium fish and pet trade in West Hawaiʻi target species such as puhi (eels) and lauʻipala (yellow tang) even though both species feed on specific limu and coral. They cannot survive for long in aquariums. A large percentage of those collected do not survive. See image of hundreds of dead lauʻipala gathered by aquarium traders.
