🔍 How effective is stop and search at reducing violent crime? The YEF Toolkit shows stop and search reduces crime by 13% (global evidence), and by 5% (UK evidence). It also reviews racial disproportionality in the use of stop and search and the impact on Black and minority ethnic children. A summary on implementing effectively: ➡️ Focus on targeted, intelligence-led approaches ➡️ Ensure officers are well-trained and follow best practices like those from the College of Policing ➡️ Build trust by involving the community through scrutiny panels that review cases. As we reflect on 2023, we are reminded that our mission to support the self-determination, power and liberation of Black, Brown, AAPI and Indigenous youth impacted by the youth justice, family policing and other disruptive systems is critical to realizing true liberation. Learn about the ways we supported an abolitionist framework, including insights from grantee partners in our year in review. https://buff.ly/48Grm5a #YearInReview #AFF #youthjustice

Policing’s growing focus on equality, diversity and inclusion, and fears that officers will be increasingly dragged into adjudicating “abusive spats” online under Scotland’s new Hate Crime Act, are the latest example of a wider debate that needs to be had, argues former Police Scotland Superintendent Martin Gallagher PhD – one which considers what the police are really for, and the danger that policing’s key purpose is being sidelined in favour of diversity. ❝The Association of Scottish Police Superintendents has a concern that individuals who could be described as the ‘activist fringe’ of particular viewpoints… will seek to ‘weaponise’ the new legislation and associated police investigation.❞ - Ch Supt Rob Hay, Association of Scottish Police Superintendents ❝A question no one seems to want to address is, ‘What about efficiency?’ Should the police be permitted to become less effective at addressing their core roles in order that they become more ‘diverse’?❞ ❝Groups that were formed to challenge vested ‘elites’ have come to resemble the very ‘elites’ they sought to challenge, with duty time, preparation for promotion, and conferences on subjects one must seriously question are of any value whatsoever to policing’s core purpose – tackling crime.❞ ❝I dread to think how long it will be in Scotland before we have an officer wish to don his sash or parade with sunglasses and a beret in part of one of our native celebrations of ‘diversity’ that unfortunately largely relate to the Orange Order or Irish Republicanism.❞ https://lnkd.in/eXxQmymS #lawenforcement #policing #police #diversityandinclusion #equality #diversity #inclusion

In a legislative meeting today, I discussed how woefully inadequate our state support systems are for victims of hate. This is a game changing piece of legislation that will immediately make an impact in people's lives. It's how we envision #TheFutureOfFightingHate. Learn more about the legislation that the team has worked so hard to push over the last two years in this video featuring Miri Cypers and Fay Stetz-Waters!
Please take a moment to watch my story, and the story of fellow advocates, who are envisioning "The Future of Fighting Hate" in this new short film we produced. As ADL Pacific Northwest continues to push for a Statewide Bias Helpline in Washington, we see a future in which fighting hate is not only about accountability in our laws but supporting those in greatest need with immediate support and resources. Take a watch and share your thoughts! To learn more about our anti-hate agenda in Washington State, visit fighthatewa.org. Thank you Judy Shepard, Rais Bhuiyan and Fay Stetz-Waters for your voices and activism. Thank you 6162 Productions for your masterful work. #TheFutureOfFightingHate

Great to be in Sweden this week with Dr John Bamber and others, to present on our youth justice relationships project and also the Greentown programme for young people caught up in criminal networks. So good to hear an international audience positively affirming our work.
