Most people would ask, what is the difference between a chef and a cook? They literally think a chef and a cook has no difference. But the truth is that they have no idea of who a chef or a cook is. However they see it as long as you can cook, then you can be called a chef. Which is not true. Allow me to throw a little light into differentiating a Chef from a Cook. Who is a Chef? A Chef is an individual who is trained to understand flavours, cooking techniques, create recipes from scratch with fresh ingredients and have a high level of responsibility within a kitchen environment. Who is a cook? A cook at the other hand is an individual who follows established recipes to prepare food. In a nutshell, a chef is also trained in the skill and most likely works in a hotel or a very busy kitchen. While a cook, can just cook and prepare meals. And most likely get the advantage to work in hospitals, canteens etc. But notwithstanding, a cook can also work in a hotel kitchen or busy kitchen as a line cook, kitchen Porter, commis etc. Chefs can fill many roles within a kitchen from introductory roles to executive level positions. In those roles a chef may be responsible for a variety of task to make a restaurant run effectively. CHEF & COOK. A chef is a special ordinary person. Who takes charge of the kitchen. The chef makes sure the job is done correctly. Not everyone is a chef. The chef never loses his temper. If something is going wrong with the food. If something does go wrong, the chef has to make arrangements as much as possible. Complete the work without losing your temper. The customer should not even know that the team has made some mistakes and should not show that we have failed. But these days everyone calls themselves chefs. They forget that our job is to cook. Some people make pizza, burger and samosa in restaurants and call themselves chefs. But when the kitchen gets busy then anger and shouting is the only thing that shows up. #hospitalityindustry #cheflife #chefjobs

You Want to Be A Professional Chef? Here’s 11 Tips to Succeed On A Trial Shift. Do you want to be a chef but you have little to no professional experience? This is where I was three years ago. I loved to cook and I had learned and practised as much as I could at home, but all the “professional” experience I could quote on my CV was scooping ice cream for one summer in high school. Within the past few years, I have worked my way up from washing dishes to becoming a professional chef at a Michelin guide restaurant. And what I have learned is — it’s not that hard. If you are passionate about cooking and making it your profession, you can be a chef. If your dream is to work as a chef in a restaurant you love, you are only a successful trial shift away from doing just that. Having recently landed a professional chef job in a top London restaurant, I have experienced and witnessed numerous successful (and unsuccessful) trial shifts in my time. To help you make it through this trial shift successfully and embark on your journey as a professional chef, here are 11 tips that will make your dream as a chef come true. 1. Do your research. 2. Confirm your shift the day before. 3. Dress appropriately. 4. Show up 15 minutes early. 5. Bring your knife. 6. Get set up and stay organised. 7. Look around and be aware what's happening around you. 8. Don't stand still - be proactive. 9. Ask questions. 10. Keep checking in throughout. 11. Work well. For more information, check out my full article linked below. Naturally, each restaurant is different and has different values and focus points, but these tips should generally be applicable to most restaurants. Following these tips, whether you have several years of experience or none at all, will guarantee that you make a good impression on your next trial shift. https://lnkd.in/eZ7spRgY #careeradvice #hospitality #chef #cheflife #careertips #howtosucceed #hospitalityindustry #restaurants #restaurantindustry #cheflife

Handling customer requests outside of regular service times requires discretion and the ability to balance customer satisfaction with operational constraints. Training can help young people develop these skills, including the importance of discretion in customer service interactions. discretion in a restaurant setting is crucial for maintaining a positive customer experience. While saying no is sometimes necessary, how it's communicated can make all the difference. It's about finding a balance between accommodating requests and managing expectations, all while ensuring the customer feels respected and valued. While there might not be a formal degree for customer handling, it's a skill that's honed through a combination of experience and training. The more opportunities one has to interact with customers and receive guidance and feedback, the more proficient they become in handling various situations effectively. You only have to look at the body language in this video and facial expressions that no training was given. These are the scenarios I put in my training and it works.

Common challenge in the food service industry-guests arriving late for breakfast when the kitchen is transitioning to lunch preparations. It can definitely be tiring and challenging to accommodate these requests, especially when you're already busy prepping for the next meal service. Smart chef & Restaurant Manager would try to find a balance between accomodating the guests and maintaining kitchen efficiency. Some options include having a cut-off time for breakfast orders that is strictly enforced, offering a limited breakfast menu during the transition period, or preparing some breakfast items that can be quickly assembled or held without losing quality. Communicating clearly with guests about kitchen/ restaurant timings (for hotel in-house guests) at check-in can also help manage their expectations. Chefs & F&B professionals, I'm curious to hear more about how you've been handling this situation and if there's a specific approach you've found effective! #FoodandBeverage #chefs #breakfast #lunch #brunch #dinner #pastryandbackery #diningexperience #guestsatisfaction

Finding the perfect chef is like discovering the secret ingredient to your restaurant's success. 🍽️👨🍳 In the culinary world, the chef is more than just a cook; they are the heart and soul of a restaurant's operation. Hiring the right chef is crucial because they set the tone for the kitchen, influence the dining experience, and ultimately shape the establishment's reputation. A chef's role extends beyond crafting delectable dishes. They are responsible for menu creation, ingredient sourcing, team management, and upholding food safety standards. The right chef brings a blend of creativity and practicality, ensuring that each dish not only tantalizes the taste buds but also reflects the restaurant's brand and ethos. Moreover, the chef's leadership in the kitchen can make or break the team's morale. They must inspire their brigade, fostering a culture of respect, learning, and passion for food. A harmonious kitchen often translates to exceptional service and a memorable dining experience for guests. In the UK, where the culinary scene is incredibly diverse and competitive, the right chef can position a restaurant as a must-visit destination. They can capture the essence of British cuisine or offer an innovative twist that sets the establishment apart. Remember, the chef you choose is the custodian of your restaurant's quality and identity. Take the time to find a culinary maestro who not only aligns with your vision but also has the prowess to turn that vision into a tantalizing reality. #RestaurantManagement #ChefHiring #CulinaryExcellence #prsjobs

#snsinstitutions #snsdesignthinkers #designthinking Hollywood movies may have sold you a perception of what being a chef is all about. They probably made it look overly desirable with the serene environment in a French restaurant located in the heart of Paris with a group of cooks in white aprons working in sync while handling ingredients and kitchen tools for the perfect outcome: a meal that leaves you drooling on your screen. Chef is a person who Most folks tend to confuse chefs and cooks. Both play a significant role in the restaurant; however, they function in different areas to ensure top-notch meals are offered to customers daily.
