Sometimes I feel so defeated. I literally just want to find a job that will help me take care of my family. How is it this hard? So many applications with 4 months, with what I feel is good experience and I literally get nothing. Someone help.

The Hilarious Reality of IT Jobs 🎉 IT Life Be Like... 🎉 You work 8 hours fixing bugs to live 4 hours questioning your life choices. You work 5 days a week so you can spend 2 day updating your home software. You work 8 hours on code to eat in 15 minutes at your desk... if you're lucky. You work 8 hours resolving tickets to sleep 5 hours dreaming about error messages. You work all year just to take a week off, only to end up troubleshooting your family's Wi-Fi. You work all your life hoping to retire, but then realize you'll just be the family's tech support in your golden years. Eventually, you realize life is like a never-ending loop of debugging someone else's bad code. We've become so accustomed to material and social slavery that we no longer see the chains (or the infinite scroll of emails). Life is a short journey, live it! Collect memories, not error logs! 💾📸

I bounced around for a few years after I got out of the Navy. I felt somewhat directionless, but it was one of the best periods of my life. It gave me the chance to figure out the jobs I hated and the skills I loved. For instance, I ended up landing a job at the biggest company in the satellite industry at the time, called IntelSat. Unfortunately for me, it was a reactive job; I just sat around waiting for things to break. While most people would thrive in a well-paying position that didn’t require much work, I hated it. There was too much downtime that I just couldn’t handle - hence, why I own my own business now (it must’ve been the entrepreneur in me). Although I didn’t enjoy it, one thing the downtime did give me was the opportunity to experiment and learn. I taught myself how to code and then got into automations. Turns out, all of those mundane, routine things I was doing in my job every day could be automated. And that realization completely changed the way my brain operated. From there, I started to develop my skills by learning how to make different pieces of equipment speak. Linking them all together on a central unit proved to be a really, really useful skill (a decade later, I’m starting to see just how useful that skill has become). The Navy was both an excellent and terrible environment for me. I came out with the experience to creatively maneuver strict boundaries, the ability to code, automate, and get different machines talking together using one central system, and more education than I had anticipated. And today, I’m using it all for one of the most innovative industries I’ve been apart of. Cannabis is an entrepreneur’s playground - and we get to explore it with the best technology we’ve ever had access to right at our fingertips. All I can say is - I couldn’t be more thrilled that I’m not in the Navy anymore, but I know that those opportunities and experiences got me to where I am today.

2024 is a number - hold me accountable as I put it into action: 2, 0, 2, 4: • (2) Daily Ethos: Ask the why each day at work to improve government services to humans, ask friends and family how they are doing and what they need from me. • (0) Remove: Make a decision each day to remove what is not necessary; i.e., exit the bad practices • (2) Improve: Read and or listen to two enriching pieces of literature or podcasts per month. • (4) Measured Goals: Health (>4 lbs of weight loss per quarter), Public Prosperity (>4 initiatives this year to enrich human lives), Happiness ( > 4 daily smile/laughter moments), Mindfulness (>4 mins of daily eyes closed and unwind sessions) Happy Action Year! If interested I created a GoogleForm if you want to join on the 2024 ride with me and work on accountability and enrich others lives. Your input helps me so I thank you 🙏. https://lnkd.in/ekGFt8VU

It's true. People who deeply care about you, tell you the truth no matter how hard it it is. I recently asked my manager if I should quit my day job and do stand up comedy (because, you know, I think I'm hilarious). He said, "Nabeel, please don't." Thanks John Uhri, for the best heartbreaking advice I didn't want to hear. Moral of the story: Building software is stressful, make it less stressful by having fun with your team. 🙂 Happy Tuesday! #softwareengineering #technology #softwarearchitecture #happytuesday
