"𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐦𝐩𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐌𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐬𝐞𝐭" At a recent leadership conference, I had the pleasure of listening to James Michael Lafferty, Olympic Coach & Corporate Leader . He spoke about what sets "𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐦𝐩𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬" apart from "𝐖𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐬"!! Amongst the several golden nuggets of wisdom that James shared, what stuck with me is the example of the legendary 𝑬𝒅𝒘𝒊𝒏 𝑴𝒐𝒔𝒆𝒔, 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑶𝒍𝒚𝒎𝒑𝒊𝒄 𝑯𝒖𝒓𝒅𝒍𝒆𝒓 and it prompted me to research more about Edwin. In today's VUCA and BANI world, we constantly seek inspiration and guidance from exemplary figures who embody dedication, resilience, and excellence. Edwin's journey offers profound lessons that are incredibly relevant. 1. 𝑫𝒊𝒔𝒄𝒊𝒑𝒍𝒊𝒏𝒆 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑪𝒐𝒏𝒔𝒊𝒔𝒕𝒆𝒏𝒄𝒚 Edwin Moses' remarkable winning streak of 122 consecutive races over nearly a decade is a testament to his unwavering discipline and consistency. In our industry, maintaining high standards and delivering exceptional service consistently are key to earning our customers' trust and loyalty. 2. 𝑰𝒏𝒏𝒐𝒗𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑨𝒅𝒂𝒑𝒕𝒂𝒃𝒊𝒍𝒊𝒕𝒚 Edwin was known for his innovative training methods and techniques, which gave him a competitive edge, for example, having studied mechanical engineering, he literally changed the game by applying some of those principles to increase his speed across the track by reducing the number of strides between each hurdle from 15 to 13 to 12 and alternating his legs in between to jump each hurdle. Similarly, in the fast-paced world of a consumer business, embracing innovation and being adaptable to changing trends and customer preferences helps us differentiate but continuous innovation is what keeps us ahead. 3. 𝑷𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒂𝒏𝒄𝒆 𝒊𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑭𝒂𝒄𝒆 𝒐𝒇 𝑪𝒉𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒆𝒏𝒈𝒆𝒔 Despite numerous challenges and setbacks, Edwin's perseverance never wavered. His ability to stay focused and overcome obstacles is a powerful reminder that resilience is essential. Whether it's navigating supply chain disruptions or adapting to new regulations, our perseverance ensures our success in the consumer sector. 4. 𝑳𝒆𝒂𝒅𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒉𝒊𝒑 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑰𝒏𝒕𝒆𝒈𝒓𝒊𝒕𝒚 Beyond his athletic achievements, Edwin has been a leader in advocating for fairness and integrity in sports. As leaders, we must champion ethical practices and create an environment where every team member feels valued and empowered. Please feel free to share your learnings and impressions about Edwin Moses in the comments! #Leadership #Inspiration #EdwinMoses #FoodServices #Excellence #Innovation #Perseverance #Integrity Here's an incredible video of his achievements from the Olympics website that you might enjoy watching: https://lnkd.in/g9b6K8XW

Making sense of a complex world | Tech founder | Experienced commercial lawyer | International trade and business consultant | Net zero leadership consultant
I am unashamedly a Liverpool Football Club supporter - have been since I was a kid growing up in Malaysia in the 80's when they were the dominant force in English football. The last few years have been a pleasure (and somewhat frustrating) following their travails on the pitch. They have had their ups and downs - but more ups than downs, to be fair. And, this is due to a large extent to the manager Jurgen Klopp. I've always held a fascination about how a manager of a football team can have such an impact upon a team. These are all professional football players - they've been plying their trade for years at the highest level but a manager can be the catalyst to success. In this clip, Jurgen Klopp reveals his own challenges with 'success'. He is perhaps one of the most highly rated and sought after manager in football today but he talks about #winning and losing. What impresses me is how real he is. He sees losing as something that we learn from and it is more important how we react to losing than winning itself. In business, we are obsessed with winning or achieving #success. But, perhaps we ought to learn that we cannot win all the time and success may be one-off. Perhaps the act of picking ourselves up and going again, the perseverance to continue the fight speaks more about who we are as #leaders. Here's a short clip of a longer interview with Rio Ferdinand. If you have the time, I urge you to watch the whole video even if you're not a football or Liverpool fan - it has so many leadership lessons. https://lnkd.in/eUcPprfS

Hi all, recently as part of a Columbus event, I had the opportunity to attend an inspiring session by Randi Skaug, the first Norwegian woman to climb Everest. Very interesting session covering her personal experience of climbing mountains as part of teams. Some key takeaways: 1. When faced with real challenges (in her case when she was 200 meters away from peak of Everest), the past accomplishments and experience do not matter. It is all about focusing on the present irrespective of what happened in the past. 2. After climbing the peak (and having achieved the goal), what one can do next? Then it is about being more curious and looking for new heights to scale. The journey never stops as it is all about journey and not hitting the milestone alone. #NewHeights #PersonalLeadership

Leadership Beyond Winning: The Story of Shinzo Kido and His Horse In the 1932 Los Angeles Olympics, Japanese equestrian Shinzo Kido faced a life-changing decision. Competing in the evening competition, Kido was on track for a medal when his horse was injured during the final leg. Rather than push his horse to finish, Kido chose to withdraw, prioritizing the well-being of his loyal companion over personal glory. Kido's decision is a powerful reminder that true leadership isn't just about achieving success—it's about making choices with integrity, compassion, and responsibility. In life and leadership, the measure of greatness often lies in the values we uphold, even when faced with difficult decisions. Kido may not have won a medal that day, but he won something far more valuable: respect, honor, and the legacy of a leader who put principles before prizes. Let’s strive to lead with the same courage and care in our own journeys. 🌱✨ #Leadership #Integrity #OlympicSpirit #ValuesBeforeVictory Photo Attribution By Unknown author - https://lnkd.in/gT4BvmCf, Public Domain, https://lnkd.in/gPZrA2qZ Page to see the latest updates.

🚀 From Heartbreak to Triumph: The Gareth Southgate Playbook🏆 In 1996, Gareth Southgate faced one of the toughest moments of his career, missing a crucial penalty in the European Championships. Fast forward to today, and he's leading the England team into the European Championships final on Sunday! 🌟⚽ What a journey from heartbreak to hero! Southgate’s story is a fantastic reminder that setbacks don’t define us—our comebacks do. 🙌 Here are a few business lessons we can all learn from Gareth Southgate's incredible turnaround: Embrace Failure: Every setback is a setup for a comeback. Use your "missed penalties" as motivation to come back stronger. Lead with Empathy: Southgate’s leadership is rooted in understanding and support. A great leader lifts their team, even when the pressure is on. Stay Focused on the Goal: Despite the challenges, Southgate kept his eyes on the prize. Keep your vision clear, no matter what obstacles arise. As we prepare for an exciting (or painful) final on Sunday, let’s celebrate the journey of turning failures into triumphs.
