#NASW SPS Webinar: January 29, 1-2 pm ET - Addressing Food Insecurity: A Community Approach; CEs: 1 Social Work Contact Hour. As the liaison between the home, school, and community, two school social workers were able to leverage community partnerships to increase access to food resources for families within a large suburban school district. All food-security initiatives were located in different areas within the school district to accommodate the diverse needs of different areas. This webinar will discuss food insecurity initiatives that were piloted before the pandemic, during the pandemic, and post-pandemic and the community resources that aided in these efforts. NEWS: Del Monte Foods, Inc. released a progress update on the first year of the "Nourishing Families by Nourishing Schools" program, a collaborative initiative launched in 2022 dedicated to enhancing the physical, mental, and social-emotional well-being of children. In year one, our partnership has: - Reached 1.25 million families with family-oriented nutritious and easy recipes and activities to foster community and connection through meals - Engaged more than two million children at nearly 4,700 K-12 schools with program content - Ensured inclusive reach with 67 percent of the students and families reached to date representing BIPOC populations and 75 percent of schools and districts reached serving under-resourced communities through Title I funding. 🔙 #TurnbackTuesday 🌟 #The51 In Action - Nourishing Communities in Times of Need 🌾 As the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted lives and livelihoods in 2021, SupportDDS & ZimWorX through #The51 was able to aid an organization called Chenga Ose Association. The51 stepped up to address the growing issue of food insecurity in this community. Recognizing the dire circumstances faced by many, our organization launched a vital initiative to provide food packs for those most affected. For 3 months, we worked tirelessly to distribute these essential supplies, ensuring that families had access to the sustenance they needed. This #The51 initiative was a testament to the power of community collaboration and our unwavering commitment to support one another during challenging times.
