Breaking Barriers and Celebrating Diversity: Unveiling the Significance of Drag Shows in Vietnam 🤗 That is the name of one of the biggest projects that I have conducted during my time in the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. It is a photo book with the aim to put forward a form of art and entertainment that originates from Western cultures but has recently been introduced to Vietnam and begun to blossom - Drag performance. We wanted to break down barriers and clear up misconceptions, showing everyone that Drag is a pure form of art, just like any other. Embarking on this captivating adventure wasn't easy, but it was definitely worth it. We immersed ourselves in Drag culture, attending shows, capturing breathtaking moments through our lenses, and having heart-to-heart conversations with the talented Drag artists. Their passion for their career and their unwavering fight for the LGBTQ+ community truly inspired us. As a leader of the team, I was also amazed and happy to see how every team member slowly gained a good amount of knowledge about Drag or even developed an interest for it throughout the process of researching. I myself accumulated skills like leadership, creative writing, and interviewing during the 2 months of making the book. Our goal was not only to celebrate the beauty of Drag queens but also to shed light on the challenges they face. We wanted to foster a greater understanding of this unique art form. I invite you to click the link below and explore our photo book. You'll find a collection of mesmerizing images that capture the essence of Drag in Vietnam. 👉 https://lnkd.in/gNeARfTn

Even though I am a cis male in The Netherlands, Pride has been a significant part of my life. Not because I am a part of the LGBTQIA+ family, but because I am aware of the necessity to create space together to be ourselves and provide a safe environment for everyone to be who they are. 𝘈𝘯𝘥 𝘐 𝘨𝘳𝘦𝘸 𝘶𝘱 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘴 𝘸𝘩𝘰 𝘮𝘢𝘥𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘢 𝘱𝘳𝘪𝘰𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘺. In recent years, unfortunately, the research shows that there is still a lot of work to do. 📉 The Netherlands dropped to the 14th place (out of 49) in the Rainbow Index, and instead of curiosity and conversation, there is a lot of judgment and negativity around gender discussions. Maybe it is not my place to make this point, or maybe it is. I feels like it is essential, as humans to advocate for each other and be each other's allies. 𝗔𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁, 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝘁𝗶𝗽𝘀 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽: • Being accepting • Taking action • Having humility Taken from an interesting article in the HBR written last April (thanks for sharing the article in an earlier post Ty Jernstedt). What do you think? Is it a good idea for a person in my position to write about this topic? And if you're in Amsterdam tomorrow, enjoy! #pride #diversity #inclusion #humanity #equality #allyship #acceptance ----------------------------------------------------- 🙋♂️ Hi! I'm Jorrit. I recently read somewhere “Diversity is being invited to the PARTY; inclusion is being asked to DANCE.” It made me think about how we are all guilty of coming across as un-welcoming at times to certain new people in a group, although we never intended to EXCLUDE. Its also not always about what you DO, its about what you DONT. If you DONT show curiosity. If you DONT actively listen. If you DONT make a conscious effort to understand diversity & inclusivity. If you DONT have empathy for others, especially marginalized sections. If you DONT encourage people who are different to you, to speak up. Most importantly, If you DONT use your privilege to give voice to those whose voice is not being heard! Then you are unknowingly EXCLUDING and not encouraging INCLUSIVITY. It means you are NOT inviting them to dance. Did you ever find yourself guilty of it? #inclusionmatters #diversity #inclusivity #diversityandinclusion
