Not having #taxfreeshopping in the UK is of course a significant disadvantage for #Retailers and indeed all businesses reliant on International visitor spend. That's a wrap for Seamless Asia! A busy 2 days - 4 panel discussions, lots of opportunities to learn, share insights and network. Thank you Kathlene G. Mayuman and Eva Brauckmann for the opportunity to contribute and to all the panellists for some great discussions. Some key takeaways: ✴ Greater use of wallets, contactless cards, and QR codes are all leading to reduced use of cash for payments in Asia, but cash will still be around for a while. ✴ Consumer education is critical to increase adoption of digital payments and reduce the frequency of fraud and scams. ✴ Data used for enhancing performance and the consumer experience can come from many sources - reviews, social media, website, stores, 3rd party - and take many forms - demographic, usage, geolocation, consumption, and facial recognition. ✴ With reducing budgets the use of AI and machine learning to increase productivity and optimise the consumer experience has become more important. ✴ User centric design and on-going user feedback loops are essential in building the perfect payment experience. ✴ The human touch, e.g. concierges and customer service staff, can be an important element in the education process when trying to change consumer behaviour. ✴ Convenience and security need to be balanced - consumers don't mind a little more friction when it means a reduced chance of fraud, e.g. additional verification checks for high value or unusual transactions, or purchase confirmation emails.
