Controversial opinion! The most interesting things happening in #anime right now are not happening in #Japan. News flash! VIZ Media has acquired the rights to #RWBY, the original anime-adjacent series created by #MontyOum and Rooster Teeth Productions, a Warner Bros. Discovery Company. RWBY (pronounced “Ruby”) is an original American 3D animated tv series, strongly influenced by anime and Japanese action RPG video games. The first series premiered on the official #RoosterTeeth website and then a few weeks later on their #YouTube channel in 2013. There have been nine seasons produced to date plus a spin-off anime series called, “RWBY: Ice Queendom”, which itself spun out of the Japanese #manga series. #VizMedia have a long relationship with the brand. They first published an international manga series called “RWBY: The Official Manga” from 2015. RWBY is a harbinger of what we can expect to come in the future via the #creatoreconomy. It’s not a coincidence that RWBY’s format was 10-15 minute episodes, specifically for optimisation of the YouTube MCN viewing audience. A tactic every Chinese anime (”donghua”) adopts today. In fact. I find the similarities between the genesis of RWBY and AHAVERSE’s #ScissorSeven quite striking. Viz Media has made a smart move. They’ve acquired a winning #IP with a very large, very dedicated audience who have been poorly served as of late thanks to the poor management and investment into the IP from its previous corporate owner (maybe “inheritor” is more apt). I expect to see more #manga, a new #webtoon series, more games and merchandising, and I really hope, more #animation/anime. Yes. Viz could pivot to Japan to make more anime, but TBH, I think this would dilute the brand’s strength. Why not consider producing a new series between the USA and France? Crunchyroll and ADN need hit anime that can be produced in France and which qualify for the quota system while also being desirable to the hard-to-please, global anime subscriber audience. #RWBY crosses the gatekeeping rubicon. It would be a good strategic fit. I last visited the cinema hall to be part of the 𝗕𝗮𝗿𝗯𝗲𝗻𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗺𝗲𝗿 movement. Netflix has been the reason behind this long gap in the choice of watching selective movies at multiplexes. Effectively, most movies are launched on the 𝗢𝗧𝗧 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺 after a period of 𝟴 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸𝘀. For example, the movies 𝗝𝗮𝘄𝗮𝗻, 𝗔𝗻𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗹 & 𝗠𝗲𝗿𝗿𝘆 𝗖𝗵𝗿𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗺𝗮𝘀 were all released within a span of 𝟴 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸𝘀 on Netflix. I want to share my thoughts as a consumer who chooses to attend the halls rarely: [1] Pricing: Netflix has various plans, and I am currently on the Standard ₹499 one. On the other hand, an average ticket price is ₹180 per person. For a group of three or four, this would amount to ₹720. [2] Unexplainable Cost of Snacks: Whilst Netflixing, I could Blinkit popcorn and coke for an average cost of ₹80, including delivery. On the other hand, the basic popcorn size and drinks start from ₹450 to ₹690. For a group of three or four, this amount would be between ₹1700 to ₹2760. [3] Convenience: No more bombardment of 30-minute-long advertisements or the added pressure of finding a parking spot. Additionally, the average time spent watching movies at multiplexes is 35% more due to intervals and pre-movie entertainment. As a consumer, my cost for a single ticket with popcorn and drinks is approximately ₹680, 18% more than what I currently pay with Netflix and food from Blinkit combined. Do you, too, as a consumer, choose to watch Netflix and, on rare occasions, attend multiplexes?
