The Tupelo Golden Wave were the 53-42 winner over the Saltillo Tigers when they last played one another back in January of 2019, but their luck changed this time around. Tupelo fell just short of Saltillo by a score of 50-47. Tupelo's defeat continues a unfortunate trend for the squad, making it three in a row.
Saltillo's win on Friday was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Cayden Howell, who scored 20 points along with six rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Howell has scored at least 25% of Saltillo's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Gunner Wesson, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds.
Tupelo bumped their record down to 3-7 with that defeat, which was their third straight on the road. As for Saltillo, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Tupelo will square off against Madison Central at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Saltillo, they will head out on the road to face off against Wheeler at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
