The Guyer Wildcats and the Coppell Cowboys squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but sadly the Guyer Wildcats had to settle for second. Guyer received a tough blow as they fell 35-21 to Coppell. Guyer was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Coppell apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2020.
Guyer's loss came despite strong showings from Kaedyn Cobbs and Kegan Stelmazewski. Cobbs rushed for 107 yards on only 12 carries, while Stelmazewski picked up 95 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Coppell's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Edward Griffin, who threw for 348 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 13.9 yards per attempt. Griffin has been hot recently, having posted three or more passing touchdowns the last four times he's played. Baron Tipton did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 200 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Guyer's loss dropped their record down to 7-4. As for Coppell, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 11-0.
Guyer does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Coppell is on the road again on Friday and play against Dallas Jesuit. Dallas Jesuit will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 146th, while Coppell is ranked 12th).
