Elk Grove and the Huskies are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2018, but not for long. The Elk Grove Thundering Herd will head out on the road to square off against the Sheldon Huskies at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. The pair have had a bumpy ride up to this point with 18 consecutive losses for Elk Grove and six for the Huskies.
On Friday, Elk Grove had to suffer through a rough 71-19 loss at the hands of the Troubadours. Elk Grove was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 43-13.
Meanwhile, it's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 64-15, which was the final score in Sheldon's tilt against the Blue Devils on Wednesday. While losing is never fun, Sheldon can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 627th, while the Blue Devils are ranked 267th).
Elk Grove's defeat was their eighth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 3-20. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 22.9 points per game. As for Sheldon, they have not been sharp recently as the team's lost seven of their last eight matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-16 record this season.
Elk Grove was dealt a bruising 61-19 defeat at the hands of the Huskies in their previous matchup back in January. Can Elk Grove avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
