The Oakmont Vikings's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their seventh straight defeat. They took a serious blow against Lincoln, falling 68-28. While losing is never fun, Oakmont can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 820th, while the Fighting Zebras are ranked 166th).
Despite the defeat, Oakmont saw an underclassman step up: Kaitlyn Fayter dropped a double-double on 16 points and 12 rebounds. That was a full 57.1% of Oakmont's points, marking the 11th time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Amy Nelson was another key contributor, scoring three points.
Lincoln's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jordan Besana, who scored 17 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Isa Keidel, who scored 13 points.
Oakmont has been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last 11 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-16 record this season. As for Lincoln, the victory (which was their 13th in a row) raised their record to 21-3.
Oakmont will head out on the road to face off against the Miners at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Nevada Union is on a three-game streak of home losses, the Vikings a four-game streak of away losses, but someone's luck is about to change. Lincoln will take on the Bruins at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Ponderosa is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
