After flying high against the Denair Coyotes last Friday, The Waterford Wildcats came back down to earth. Waterford's tough 62-36 loss to Le Grand on Friday might stick with them for a while. Waterford was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 48-14.
Waterford's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performance. Perhaps the best among them was Christian Gayle, who picked up 190 receiving yards and three touchdowns, and also punched in a rushing score. Gayle is on a roll when it comes to receiving touchdowns, as he's now hauled in two or more in the last three games he's played. Lincoln Wagner also helped out as he racked up 115 receiving yards.
Le Grand was led to victory by Alexis Granados and Diego Martinez. Granados rushed for 208 yards while picking up 13.0 yards per carry, while Martinez threw for 222 yards and six touchdowns on only 18 passes. Granados was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 66 yards.
Waterford's loss dropped their record down to 4-7. As for Le Grand, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-2.
Waterford does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Le Grand will take on Orestimba at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Orestimba knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past six matchups -- so hopefully Le Grand likes a good challenge.
