The Elk Grove Thundering Herd's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their 17th straight loss. They took a serious blow against Cosumnes Oaks, falling 62-25. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Elk Grove in their matchups with the Wolfpack: they've now lost six in a row.
When it comes to explaining why Elk Grove lost, one person who can't be blamed is Nyla Kieu. Despite the final result, she scored 16 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Kieu has scored all season.
Isabel Tan continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Cosumnes Oaks, dropping a double-double on 14 points and 14 steals. Tan is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed four or more in the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Caitlin Subejano, who scored 13 points along with five assists and four steals.
Elk Grove's defeat was their tenth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 3-19. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 22.7 points per game. As for Cosumnes Oaks, their victory bumped their record up to 15-10.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Elk Grove will take on the Troubadours at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. St. Francis presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Thundering Herd in California (the Troubadours are ranked 301st, while the Thundering Herd are ranked 1059th). As for Cosumnes Oaks, they will be playing at home against the Timberwolves at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Woodcreek is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
