The Mayfield Cardinals will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against the Mt. Vernon Wildcats at 12:30 p.m. on Friday. Mayfield will be strutting in after a win while Mt. Vernon will be coming in after a loss.
Last Friday, Mayfield strolled past West Creek with points to spare, taking the game 58-41.
Meanwhile, things could have been worse for Mt. Vernon, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 61-47 loss to Heritage Hills last Tuesday. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Mt. Vernon in their matchups with Heritage Hills: they've now lost seven in a row.
The losing side was boosted by Jackson Clowers, who scored 21 points along with five rebounds. Those 21 points set a new season-high mark for him. Nash Hostetter was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
The victory got Mayfield back to even at 4-4. As for Mt. Vernon, they bumped their record down to 4-3 with that defeat, which was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season.
