Homeownership is a tough milestone to achieve for a generation strapped with student debt, high cost of living, and new economic barriers many of us are still learning how to manage. But even obstacles that high don’t make the dream impossible. Enter Digs ⏤ the only first-time homebuyer’s savings app designed to help bridge the gap between wishing for homeownership and actually achieving it.

Here’s how it works. You use their savings tool to set aside money toward your first home. Digs matches a percentage of your contributions so you can reach your savings goals, faster. Yes. They contribute to your savings right along with you. And coach you through the process while you save.

You’ll set up milestones to help you prepare for all the additional costs you may not expect to pay if you were going at it alone. And you’ll learn from real estate pros about the entire home buying process along the way. Once you’re ready to buy, you’ll have all the knowledge (and the savings) you need to make it happen.

What’s that have to do with nbkc?

In 2018, the Digs team made their way from Chicago to join our startup accelerator program, Fountain City FinTech (a.k.a. where nbkc helps startups...start up). We supported them with the tools, resources, and community they needed to make their dream a reality ⏤ and Digs was born.

Now that they’ve graduated from our program, we’re the bank behind the app. nbkc helps keep Digs customers’ savings safe and FDIC-insured. And once they’re ready to borrow, we help them find the right mortgage option, too.

Digs is building a generation of better, smarter home buyers ⏤ and that’s a cause we’re thrilled to get behind.

The team behind Digs:

Get a better bank

Pat McLoughlin (left) and Chad Johnson (right) met in architecture school, where they both first realized their passion for all-things housing. After graduation, they set out on their own. Pat started investing in real estate and Chad went the tech route, designing apps and websites.

When the homeownership bug finally bit, they both soon discovered the struggle was real, especially in a city like Chicago. They watched themselves and several friends fumble through the process and knew there had to be a better way. Pat and Chad joined forces to create Digs ⏤ the only savings app built especially for first-time home buyers.
