Springfield police arrest man suspected in fatal shooting after short standoff

After a short standoff, Springfield Police Department arrested a suspect in a fatal shooting that took place Sunday morning.

Springfield resident Isaiah Church, 34, was arrested and jailed on suspicion of second-degree murder in the death of Texas resident D'Vaunte Tavon Grant, police said in a news release.

Grant, 31, died at a local hospital Sunday, according to the release. The SPD responded to a call Sunday morning reporting a man being shot at Wicked Superstore, 425 E. Kearney St. Grant had been taken to the hospital by a citizen before police arrived.

During the investigation, SPD's homicide unit identified Church as a suspect and located him Sunday afternoon at 1350 N. Lexington Ave. A perimeter was established and Church exited the residence after a short standoff. He was arrested and booked into Greene County Jail.
