Forsyth High School right-handed pitcher Tristan Hunter has been in communication with multiple MLB clubs and could be selected in this upcoming week's MLB Draft.

Hunter, the Class 3 Player of the Year this past season, finished his senior year and is signed to play college baseball at the University of Kentucky.

Hunter's name doesn't appear in most MLB Draft databases but the interest is there. There was a high school game during the 2024 season in which about a dozen scouts lined up in the Panthers' bullpen to watch him pitch.

Where do mock drafts have Tristan Hunter going?

MLB mock drafts typically don't go past the first two rounds and Hunter's name has yet to appear.

How good of a prospect is Tristan Hunter considered?

Draft information on Hunter is sparse but that can be expected for a small-town high school prospect.

There is plenty to like in Hunter's game that would make him an attractive prospect. He's nearing his 19th birthday and throws 95 mph true running fastballs with a curveball and changeup in his arsenal. The more younger arms teams can get that throw that hard, the better.

What are Tristan Hunter's options?

Hunter is in a great position where, if drafted, he could choose to sign with a professional baseball team or decide to increase his stock by attending Kentucky.

Going to Kentucky isn't a bad option. The Wildcats were ranked among the top teams in the country throughout the 2024 season and qualified for the College World Series.

How much money could Tristan Hunter make in the MLB Draft?

Hunter could enter the MLB Draft with a dollar amount that he wants. In many cases, if players don't get the number they want, they'll opt for college ball.

Teams have an assigned bonus pool dollar amount they budget for their picks. If they go over the bonus pool, they'll face a penalty. The first 10 rounds have an assigned value. Teams sometimes spend less than the assigned value for those choices and then use the savings to offer more money to the later selections.

The final pick of the 10th round has an assigned value of $178,800. If Hunter is selected after the 315th overall pick, teams will negotiate a bonus within their budget.
