Where Are Casey Anthony's Parents Amid 'Where the Truth Lies' Documentary?

In Peacock's new true-crime documentary Where the Truth Lies, Casey Anthony speaks on camera for the first time since her trial for the alleged murder of her 2-year-old daughter Caylee in 2011.

On July 15, 2008, Casey Anthony's mother, Cindy, reported Caylee missing, and during the call with the 911 operator Casey Anthony said that Caylee had disappeared 31 days earlier. She also claimed that a nanny had kidnapped her daughter, though this statement was later revealed to be a lie.

Anthony was charged with child neglect, making false statements to authorities and obstructing the investigation on July 16, and, in October 2008, Anthony was charged with first-degree murder. Caylee's remains were found in December 2008 in a wooded area near the Anthony family home in Orlando, Florida.

The trial began in May 2011, in which Anthony made allegations that her father George had sexually abused her as a child. He has strongly denied these claims.

In July 2011, the jury found Anthony not guilty of first-degree murder, aggravated child abuse and aggravated manslaughter of a child. Anthony was found guilty of four misdemeanor counts of lying to a law enforcement officer, and she was sentenced to four years in prison. She was given credit for time served and was released on July 17, 2011.

Neither George nor Cindy Anthony appears in Where the Truth Lies, so viewers may be wondering where they are now.

In Peacock's Where the Truth Lies documentary, Casey Anthony alleged that her father George had sexually abused her from the age of 8 to 12 and that he was involved in Caylee's death. These were claims Anthony's defense attorney, Jose Baez, also made during her trial. Her father has strongly denied these claims.

In the documentary, Anthony also said that she had learned to lie and steal money from her father. She is also shown watching footage of Anthony said that her daughter had "learned by example."

"You lied to me for several years and that's where our daughter got it [from]," Cindy Anthony told her husband during the A&E interview and, as she walked away her, husband replied "Do not personally attack me."

Casey Anthony said in the documentary that on the day Caylee had died she fell asleep with her daughter while her father was in the house and she "was awoken by him shaking me and asking me where Caylee was."

She said: "That didn't make sense. She would never even leave my room without telling me even if she had to go to the bathroom, she'd never just leave me there. She knew she wasn't allowed to just be in the house by herself.

"I immediately started looking around the house [...] I go outside and I'm looking to see where she could be, she's not in the playhouse, where is she? Where could she be? Didn't make sense, still doesn't make sense. She'd never done that before, why that day?"

She then said that she didn't look in the pool because when she went back to the front of the house her father had found Caylee. She said: "He was standing there with her. She's soaking wet. I can see him standing there with her in his arms.

"He handed her to me, and telling me that it's my fault, that I did that. That I caused it and I just collapsed with her in my arms. She was heavy, and she was cold."

Anthony went on: "He takes her from me and he immediately softens his tone and says 'It's going to be ok.' that she was going to be okay, that's what he said to me. I wanted to believe him because I wanted her to be okay.

"I don't know how long I sat outside, I don't know where he went. He took her from me and he walked away. I know he went back through the screen doors and he went back into the house, I don't know where he went and I don't know what he did. I just want her back, that's all I've wanted this entire time."

Anthony said in the documentary that she lied to police because she was "doing what [she] was told" by her father, and that she had "protected the person who hurt" her. She also said her father had made her believe Caylee was still alive in June 2008 as he had told her they'd be "reunited soon."

On November 15, Fox News Digital published photos showing George Anthony outside the family home in Orlando, Florida. George and Cindy Anthony, who are still married, have spoken publicly on multiple occasions about their daughter, her trial and the death of their granddaughter.

In 2017, they made an appearance on Crime Watch Daily with Chris Hansen. In the interview George Anthony responded to the allegations made at his daughter's trial about him sexually abusing Casey Anthony, and that he was involved in covering up Caylee's death after she had accidentally drowned.

He denied any involvement, saying: "It was told that I had found Caylee in the pool, I went into the pool to get her and brought her out and rushed in, she was already dead. That is wrong, because it did not happen. It did not happen."

He said that when Anthony's defense team brought up the allegations of sexual abuse during the trial he wanted to "attack him, that's how angry I was, but you know what I felt I was bigger than this."

He denied the allegations once again and said that his wife Cindy, who was sitting beside him, also "knows it didn't happen."

When asked if they believed their daughter had killed Caylee, Cindy Anthony replied: "No, I don't think [so]. I truly honestly don't think she killed her. I don't know if it was an accident or what happened. I don't know if Casey got distracted and Caylee drowned in the pool."

In the interview, George Anthony said he had "no relationship with [his] daughter" following the trial, and when asked if he had a message for Casey Anthony he said: "Stay away, stay away from me. If she wants a relationship again with her mom, she has a lot of explaining to do, but I don't want to hear from her."

This changed in 2019 after he was involved in a near-fatal car crash, and he and his wife appeared on the Dr. Oz Show to discuss the case and how he wanted to "forgive" his daughter.

He explained that Casey Anthony had been in touch after the accident and, per People, he said: "For what she has put her mom, me, my son, and not having Caylee here anymore. I would forgive her for all this stuff."

He added: "I've come to understand [that] is the only way I'm going to get past a lot of things in my life. I have to forgive. I'll never forget, but I need to forgive."

In March 2022, Casey Anthony's mother, Cindy, appeared on Crime Scene Confidential and she spoke about the case.

According to a report from People, Anthony's mother reflected on the claim that her granddaughter had accidentally drowned, saying of her daughter: "Why the heck didn't she tell us? Why didn't she call somebody? None of this would've happened.

"And it's like, oh my gosh, she put us through hell. I know if I had found Caylee drowned in the pool, I would've been devastated and blamed myself for the rest of my life."

Neither George nor Cindy Anthony appear in Where the Truth Lies, and they have not commented publicly following the documentary's release.

Where the Truth Lies is available to watch on Peacock.
