Where Is Casey Anthony's Attorney Jose Baez Now and What Happened to Him?

In a new Peacock documentary, Where the Truth Lies, Casey Anthony speaks for the first time on camera since her 2011 trial for the alleged murder of her 2-year-old daughter Caylee.

Jose Baez was Anthony's defense attorney during her trial, where a jury found her not guilty of murder.

Baez does not make an appearance in the documentary and so viewers may be wondering where the criminal lawyer is now.

On July 15, 2008, Caylee Anthony was reported missing by her grandmother, Cindy, and in a conversation with a 911 operator, Casey Anthony said that she had been missing for a total of 31 days. She also claimed that a nanny had kidnapped her daughter in June, though this statement was later revealed to be a lie.

Casey Anthony was charged with child neglect, making false statements to authorities and obstructing the investigation on July 16, and, in October 2008, Anthony was charged with first-degree murder. Caylee's remains were found in December 2008 in a wooded area near the Anthony family home in Orlando, Florida.

The trial began in May 2011, and in July, the jury found Anthony not guilty of first-degree murder, aggravated child abuse and aggravated manslaughter of a child.

Anthony was found guilty of four misdemeanor counts of lying to a law enforcement officer, and she was sentenced to four years in prison. She was given credit for time served and was released on July 17, 2011.

Where Is Casey Anthony's Attorney Jose Baez Now?

Since representing Anthony at her trial, Baez has continued to work as a defense attorney in Orlando, Florida.

Baez has his own law firm for which he is the CEO, and he leads a team of lawyers who work on cases in areas like criminal defense, negligent security, civil litigation, civil rights, appeals, wrongful death, and forensic science.

The lawyer made an appearance on The Megyn Kelly Show on December 1, in which he spoke to Kelly about the Anthony case and his reason for not appearing in the new documentary.

Kelly brought up the trial and how Baez had argued in his opening statement that Caylee drowned in the family pool, and Kelly asked about why he did not provide evidence to support this argument.

Baez said: "Because I didn't have to, our system of justice requires the government to prove your guilt beyond and to the exclusion of every reasonable doubt. As a defense lawyer it's your job to point out a reasonable hypothesis of innocence.

"Everything I said in there I had a good faith basis based on the evidence and based on what I anticipated the evidence would show.

"At no time am I required to put Casey on the stand and at no time was she required to be put on the stand, but there's a lot of things that prosecutors argue in their cases that they don't get to prove."

The lawyer argued that the prosecution "certainly didn't prove murder" and yet "no one is going back and asking them" why they did not provide the evidence to do so like Kelly was doing.

When asked about Where the Truth Lies documentary, Baez said that he didn't want to appear on it because he didn't feel he needed to "do victory laps for a case I won 11 years ago."

The lawyer said he had not seen the documentary either, and he was focused on what was next for him in his career rather than focusing on the past.

"My most important case is the next one right in front of me because in this business no one cares what you did in the past, only when they hire you in hopes of what you're going to do in the future," Baez said. "So, for me, my focus is what's right in front of me, the current cases that I have which are very dear and important to me, and very important to the families of the folks I represent."

Baez also explained that he and Anthony remained on good terms and had "no falling out" when asked by Kelly if they had, and he said: "I wish nothing but the best for Ms. Anthony, I hope she finds peace in her life and all of the other folks involved."
