Woman Angry at Boyfriend for Making Her Go Out, Has No Idea What's in Store

It takes some convincing to be pulled away from the beach—and one woman has gone viral for being particularly stubborn.

A video posted to TikTok by Catie (@catiemcd) has garnered attention after she revealed the way she protested having to leave the beach on vacation, not knowing that the reason was to prepare for a proposal. Since the video was posted, it has been viewed over 9 million times and received a million likes.

"POV: You're p***** your boyfriend makes you leave the perfect beach day for a 'reservation,' so you boycott with no makeup, a beach cover-up, a shower beer and pout the entire car ride there," she captioned the video. "Thought I was going to a beach bar for a full moon party...ended up dancing in the moonlight."

The video shows Catie swimming before leaving the beach to go to the couple's "reservation." Little did she know the reservation was a beachside proposal complete with a heart and rose petals in the sand.

It was so difficult to get Catie away from the beach that day, she wrote in the comments, that her now-fiancé told her his "next line of defense" was to say that the restaurant would charge them if they didn't show up for their "reservation."

Some in the comments were antagonistic about Catie's behavior leading up to the proposal, saying if they were the one proposing, they would scrap the plan after seeing her "boycott."

"I would've not even proposed, would've said we're having a nice time and done, not marrying someone like that," @tyrone_torres wrote.

But others thought authenticity in relationships was key. "You're 1,000 percent ready for marriage if you can be your complete self and laugh at this together," @okayishmama wrote.

"I was in a really bad mood right before mine and was giving attitude the whole time," @enfluencerugc wrote. "He said, 'If I can't accept you at your grumpiest then I wouldn't be doing this in the first place.'"

The Art of the Near-Foiled Proposal

Many in the comments poured in with their own stories of unpleasant behavior prior to a surprise proposal. They empathized with Catie's desires for a long, beautiful beach day.

"My boyfriend told me we were going swimming at the beach and then took me to the cliffs at San Onofre [in California]," @malamap0n0 wrote. "The video shows me frustratedly arguing there's no place to swim before he knelt down."

"I didn't want to get out of the car for mine because it was 'too cold,' so my husband...proposed in the car," @ellies.a.mess wrote.

"My husband made me walk up all these steps on the hottest day of the year with the promise there was food at the top," @ttweeky2 wrote. "When I got there, there was no food and I was fuming and hangry, then he proposed."

Rain or shine, difficult or easy-going, the perfect proposal is more dogged than you think.
