Woman Shares Common Dating App Gripe, Begs People to 'Use Your Eyes'

A woman's dating gripe, which she voiced on social media, has resonated with viewers online.

Jocelyn, 28, took to TikTok on her account @jawsolyn June 5 urging viewers to take extra care while using online dating sites, warning that dating apps are brimming with time wasters.

There's no doubt that dating apps have revolutionized modern romance, offering a convenient platform for people to meet potential partners. Despite the potential for success, the platforms require users to assess the profiles of other users—something that Jocelyn has said some people do not do, opting for aimless liking instead.

"If you're gonna use dating apps to date, seriously, I beg of you to use your eyes and read," she said.

The creator, who divides her time between San Francisco and New York City, offered a glimpse at where this logic had not been used. Viewers were able to see a screengrab of one of Jocelyn's dating app matches. The user had made clear on his profile that he is a Christian seeking another Christian for a long-term relationship, while Jocelyn's profile states that she is an atheist. The fact that the user had not clearly assessed Jocelyn's profile, despite liking it, prompted her to speak out online.

"I just checked my Hinge likes and got a like from this person who puts 'Christian' in their profile," she said. "He also made an extra point in their prompts to highlight that faith is important to them.

"So, why did he send me a like when this is my profile," Jocelyn, added, showing her Hinge account which clearly states, "atheist."

"Loud and clear for everyone to see," she said. "I do not believe in faith."

She captioned the post, "a migraine literally hit while I was making this video," after ending the clip saying that she's developing a headache.

In the comments section, 1,300-plus viewers have weighed in on what Jocelyn said—many with their own complaints.

"I'm convinced that guys don't read and just swipe on anyone they find attractive," one user said.

Another wrote: "I have on my profile that I 'don't want kids' and men who HAVE kids still try to match with me."

A third user said: "Guys don't read the profile until after the [conversation] starts."

"When you see something about traveling written for the 7000th time, you stop reading," another TikToker posted.
