St. Pizza,

the relatively new restaurant on Magazine Street, was recognized by the New York Times as one of the 22 best pizza places in the U.S., putting the local shop alongside pizzerias in Los Angeles, Chicago and Philadelphia — as well as gems in unconventional locales like Juneau, Alaska and Cleveland, Mississippi. Bywater favorite Pizza Delicious also was recently recognized by 50 Top Pizza USA 2024 as one of the country’s best pies. It’s good recognition for a city that hasn’t historically been known for its pizza.

Bryan “Birdman” and Ronald “Slim” Williams,

the founders of Cash Money Records, were honored July 3 for their contributions to our city and culture when the intersection they grew up on was renamed Williams Brothers Way. Birdman and Slim spent much of their early life living at the intersection of Saratoga and Erato streets. Meanwhile, Birdman and Cash Money were also feted at Essence Fest, where he and other Cash Money stars headlined the festival’s first evening.

Gov. Jeff Landry

recently vetoed $4.32 million from the state budget that had been earmarked for New Orleans-area nonprofits and projects. The 21 funding requests that were vetoed included $1.5 million for projects by the Algiers Development District and $1 million for the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities. At least 15 of those 21 requests came from districts controlled by Democrats.
