The National Weather Service in New Orleans has issued a flash flood warning Thursday afternoon for portions of Orleans and Jefferson parishes.

The flash flood warning is in effect until 1:45 p.m. for west central Orleans Parish and northwestern Jefferson Parish, NWS forecasters say. Specific locations that will experience flash flooding include New Orleans, Lakefront and Louis Armstrong International airports, Metairie, Bridge City, Harahan, Elmwood, Jefferson, River Ridge and Waggaman. 

Interstate 510 between mile markers 1 and 2, Interstate 10 between mile markers 222 and 247 and Interstate 610 between mile markers 1 and 4 are may also experience flooding, forecasters said.

Between 1 to 2 inches of rain had already fallen as of 11:48 p.m. Up to 3 more inches of rainfall are expected in areas under the warning. 

NWS forecasters caution drivers to turn around and take another route if encountered by flooded roads.
