Letters: Grateful for firefighters, medical staff who helped our family through tragedy

My son is a Baton Rouge firefighter. We lost our 2-year-old granddaughter recently in a tragic accident.

The support of the Baton Rouge Fire Department, the Fire and Emergency Training Institute at LSU, the Zachary Fire Department, the St. George Fire Department, the East Baton Rouge EMS and the Zachary Police Department was unbelievable and very humbling.

She became a heart donor, and the Our Lady of Lourdes Children's ICU had a hero's walk. The turnout flooded the fourth floor. My family will forever be grateful for the love and support shown to us from everybody.

Thanks also to the ICU unit for making this tragedy somewhat manageable. But the brotherhood of the fire departments in this area is a force of nature. Well done, sirs.
