Delgado baseball coach Joe Scheuermann's collected his milestone 1,178th career victory at the school in dramatic fashion in Game 8 of the NJCAA South District tournament on Saturday at Choccolocco Park in Oxford, Alabama.

Jack Walker's sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth scored Walker Bazile to lift Delgado to a 5-4 win over Coastal Alabama South Community College

With the win, Scheuermann surpassed the state collegiate win record previously held by the late Tony Robichaux, who coached at McNeese State, UL.

"It means a lot," Scheuermann said of now owning the record. "Somebody gave me a chance. We've had some great players and some great coaches that got me there. I didn't win 1,178. … my teams won 1178. I thank God for the opportunity, my family, Delgado and most of all I thank my players."

Trailing 3-1 in the sixth, Delgado posted three runs on four hits in the sixth inning, including a two-run single by Logan O'Neill to tie the game and a two-out, RBI single by Giovanni Licciardi to give the Dolphins a one-run lead.

A wild pitch in the top of the seventh scored Coastal's Devon Murphy to tie the game at 4.

The tie held until the bottom of the ninth when Giovanni led off the inning with a walk, Walker Bazile singled, Casey Artigues was intentionally walked and Rhett Centanni grounded into a fielder's choice to load the bases before Jack Walker's sacrifice fly ended the game. Blaise Lalonde picked up he win, pitching the final two innings in relief.
