capitalization: shortened titles

When dealing with shortened titles, you should capitalize words that would normally be capitalized in the full title.

  • For a healthy diet, follow the Food Guide. [short for Canada’s Food Guide]
  • The report appeared in the Star.

Note: In the examples above, because the word the is not part of the full title, it is not capitalized unless it begins a sentence.

  • The Food Guide gives guidelines for healthy eating.
  • The Star published a report on the incident.
