Who's in the running to become Apple's next AI partner? According to Bloomberg, it's not Meta.
In response to a Wall Street Journal report about Apple considering Apple Intelligence integrations with Meta, Google, Anthropic, and Perplexity AI, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reports that Cupertino will not add Meta's Llama chatbot to iOS.
Apple held brief discussions with Meta in March but didn't reach a formal agreement as Apple believed Meta's privacy practices were not "stringent enough," Gurman says. The idea was shelved "months ago," and "Apple has no active plans to integrate Llama."
While launching Apple Intelligence at WWDC, Apple announced OpenAI's ChatGPT as its first AI partner, though Craig Federighi, Apple's SVP of Software Engineering, said the company would be open to integrating other large language models (LLMs) into its software.
That could include Google's Gemini. At WWDC, Federighi said Apple "may look forward to doing integrations with different models like Google Gemini in the future," 9to5Mac reports.
Apple Intelligence debuts this fall alongside iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia, though you'll need an iPhone 15 Pro or Pro Max or a MacBook or iPad running at least an M1 chip.
