Sony Details Which Streaming Services Work on PS5 at Launch

There's a few notable absences including Amazon Prime Video and Hulu.

The main reason for purchasing a PlayStation 5 console on launch day is to play games, but the next-gen console also doubles as a streaming media device, so the obvious question to ask is: what can it stream on launch day?

Sony has answered that question via the PlayStation.Blog, and it's mostly good news. For movie and TV streaming, your PS5 will be able to stream Apple TV+, Disney+, and Netflix on launch day. You'll also be able to access the huge range of videos available on YouTube, and access all your favorite streamers on Twitch. Alternatively, if you've had enough screen time, PS5 owners can instead load up Spotify on the console for some audio relief.

Notably absent from the launch day streaming list are Amazon Prime Video and Hulu. However, both services are coming to PS5 along with MyCanal, Peacock, "and more" according to Sony, we just don't know when yet.

YouTube and Twitch are integrated into the PS5, allowing you to easily live stream while gaming or share your favorite gameplay clips, chat live, or sit back and just watch someone else play instead. Spotify integration also means you can play your choice of music in the background while playing games.

Last week, Sony unveiled the PS5 user interface and with it a new Media space. It means there's no need to download streaming apps from the PlayStation Store anymore. Instead, a dedicated space for media exists as part of the UI, which Sony says makes controlling and interacting with it much easier. There's also a new, official Media Remote set to be made available at launch for those who intend to regularly use their PS5 as a media device rather than just for gaming.
