CFL Week 20 Offensive Line Rankings: Blue Bombers keep rolling

Few things are more important to a team’s success than the quality of its offensive line. Disastrous lines, or even disastrous weak-link mismatches, can determine the outcome of games, while strong units give an incredible advantage to an offense.

This CFL season, we will be keeping track of PFF’s offensive line rankings as well as highlighting the biggest weak-link player and their upcoming opponent to identify any obvious matchup advantage one way or the other.

1. Winnipeg Blue Bombers (No Change)

It was an outstanding week in pass protection for every Blue Bombers offensive lineman. All seven who played in Week 20 finished with above-average grades, with the lowest mark being a respectable 68.6. Bryant (83.0) and Kolankowski (80.4) led the charge with clean outings.
However, it was a low-end performance for the Blue Bombers' offensive line in the run game by their standards. They provided their running backs with 1.7 yards before contact on average, only their 13th-best performance this season.

Upcoming Week: Calgary Stampeders

The Stampeders' defense is one of the few units in the CFL with decent grades against the Blue Bombers' offensive line. Calgary is one of two teams with a 70.0-plus overall defense grade against Winnipeg.

2. Montreal Alouettes (No Change)

The Alouettes were on a bye in Week 20.
Pier-Olivier Lestage enters the last game of the season looking to lock up the title of “top CFL run-blocking offensive lineman.” He sports an 84.0 grade ahead of Week 21.

Upcoming Week: Hamilton Tiger-Cats

This is a CFL eastern semifinal preview. The Alouettes have enjoyed success against the Tiger-Cats' defense, which has earned a 57.9 run-defense grade and a 63.2 pass-rush grade in those games this season.

3. Toronto Argonauts (No Change)

Ryan Hunter was dominant in the run game last week, finishing as the top-graded run-blocker in the CFL among those who played a full game. He earned a 76.5 run-blocking grade across 21 such snaps.
Isiah Cage struggled against the Roughriders' pass rush, recording a 47.6 pass-blocking grade while allowing four total pressures over 44 snaps.

Upcoming Week: Ottawa Redblacks

Toronto has dominated the Redblacks' defense all season. Ottawa has earned a 54.0 overall defense grade, a 53.0 run-defense grade and a 50.7 pass-rush grade in games against the Argonauts.

4. Hamilton Tiger-Cats (No Change)

The Tiger-Cats were on a bye in Week 20.
Their offensive line is clicking at the right time. Heading into the playoffs, Hamilton is one of two playoff teams without a starter whose PFF grade is below 60.0.

Upcoming Week: Montreal Alouettes

Hamilton will look to keep dominating the Alouettes' defense on the ground. In their season matchups this season, Montreal has posted a 58.9 defense grade.

5. Edmonton Elks (No Change)

The Elks' offensive line finished their season ranked fifth with a 59.1 run-blocking grade and fifth with a 57.9 pass-blocking grade.
Brett Boyko earned a 72.2 overall grade, a 66.9 run-blocking grade and a 73.7 pass-blocking grade this year. His overall grade and his pass-blocking grade ranked first on the Elks, while his run-blocking grade placed second to Martez Ivey’s 77.0 mark.

6. British Columbia Lions (No Change)

The Lions' guard play was once again a concern. Knevel (59.6) and Chungh (44.9) each finished with sub-60.0 pass-blocking grades and allowed three or more pressures.
The Lions' offensive line had a mediocre week in the run game, as well. They finished with a 60.1 run-blocking grade and provided only 1.4 yards before contact on average.

7. Saskatchewan Roughriders (No Change)

Peter Godber finished the season with a 70.9 overall grade to go with his 66.5 run-blocking grade and his 78.7 pass-blocking grade. All of his grades rank first on the Roughriders.
The Roughriders' offensive line ended their season ranked seventh with a 55.2 run-blocking grade and seventh with a 51.4 pass-blocking grade.

8. Calgary Stampeders (No Change)

Despite playing only 18 snaps this game, Joshua Coker had an outstanding game, earning an 86.8 overall grade, an 85.9 run-blocking grade and a 74.4 pass-blocking grade.
Bryce Bell (52.6), McEwen (47.9), Williams (44.1) and Sceviour (25.0) all struggled in pass protection last week. Each finished with pass-blocking grades below 53.0.

Upcoming Week: Winnipeg Blue Bombers

The Blue Bombers' pass rush has posted a 76.5 pass-rush grade with four sacks, seven hits and 26 hurries against the Stampeders this season.

9. Ottawa Redblacks (No Change)
