Start with a tsp of each -blot your brush! Simply touching your damp paintbrush to the fabric usually works! You can always go over it again to make it more defined -you can draw your design out with chalk before you paint. Chalk will rinse off in the wash. I’m just too impatient and just go for it -in my experience, there is 0 rhyme or reason as to what colors come out.
