Rendezvous with rama

Jimmy Pak, stranded on the far side of the cylindrical sea, runs into a biological robot, or Biot, as Clarke called them. The giant spikes, the drive of Rama, hang in the sky, bolts of electricity still playing around them. Jimmy's crashed sky bike can be seen in the distance, in the process of being dismantled by other Biots. It occurs to me the Rendevous with Rama is the only science fiction novel I know that has a cyclist as hero, albeit a sky cyclist.

Inside Cover

I just finished reading Arthur C. Clarke's 'Rendezvous with Rama' and had to illustrate one of the moments from it. The novel really walks the line well between eeriness and wonder, which I have a lot of respect for. I intended this to be a fast job, as I didn't know how much of a gap I would have between paid projects, so I kept this loose and painterly which I feel was the right choice given the subject and mood.
