Today, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau spoke with the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Sir Keir Starmer, to congratulate him on his election.

Prime Minister Trudeau underscored the strong bilateral relationship between Canada and the United Kingdom, which is built on generations of shared history and values. The leaders reiterated their commitment to upholding democratic institutions and the rules-based international order.

The prime ministers reaffirmed their unwavering support to Ukraine as it continues to defend itself against Russia’s brutal and unjustifiable invasion. They welcomed the opportunity to discuss NATO’s enduring commitment and support to Ukraine, as well as other Euro-Atlantic security challenges, at the upcoming NATO Summit in Washington, D.C., United States of America, from July 9 to 11, 2024.

Prime Minister Trudeau and Prime Minister Starmer expressed appreciation for our two countries’ longstanding, deep, and dynamic relationship, and looked forward to advancing shared priorities at the NATO Summit in Washington, D.C, next week.
