Ted B 4.0 stars; Back during the 1980s, it became popular to make big budget Agatha Christie murder plot movies starring a bevy of big-name actors and actresses of the time. This film definitely falls into that category. These movies were long (this one was about 2 hours), well-written, and the acting bar was set low for the acting performances (even though the actors were well-paid). The locations were always exquisite and well filmed. Here is where my bias (4 stars) plays a part. To a true mystery aficionado, anything that Agatha Christie writes is biblical. Therefore, my movie ratings of those star-studded spectacular Christie films such as "Death on the Nile" or "Murder on the Orient Express" will always reveal my bias. Rated 4/5 Stars •  Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/08/24 Full Review Paul F I was never as keen on this than the more serious Murder on the Orient Express , but Ustinov and Finney are like apple and pears, pointless to compare them, such different approaches to acting and styles of production. Watching it again I think it stands up really well. The scenes with Maggie Smith and Diana Rigg are brilliant of course, but the whole cast are a class act, brilliant character actors happy to go along with the whole show . No one should take these films seriously as the plots are all convoluted and bonkers, as adapted from novels of their time. There is also Nicholas Clay in his gorgeous prime; sadly I think only the amazing Maggie is left standing now . Rated 4/5 Stars •  Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/16/24 Full Review Audience Member Peter Ustinov is another one of the many actors to portray Agatha Christie's Hercule Poirot Evil Under the Sun is another one of the many who-dun-it stories with a case for the world's greatest detective Here he stars next to Maggie Smith, the late Roddy McDowall, Diana Rigg, and the late Sylvia Myles A stage actress dies on her honeymoon in the Adriatic It's up to Poirot while working on a case for an insurance company regarding an important diamond, finds out that it was bought for her He narrows down his list of suspects as he finds that the diamond was a fake Is it me or did this feel more like a 1950s film? Some of the music choices are a bit odd It does take a while for the murder-mystery to take place like the other adaptations but the caliber of actors weigh things nicely as well as the beauty of the backdrops Ustinov makes for a good Poirot making the last 15 minutes very juicy with the details of the crime This did feel like it belonged to another era of cinema yet Christie's stories make for good capers since their inception Rated 4/5 Stars •  Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/06/24 Full Review Read all reviews
