Peter Bradshaw Guardian Director Barbara Kopple strays into territory occupied by James Toback and Catherine Hardwicke. But it feels like a cautionary after-school movie spiced up with sex and violence. dave s It's probably safe to say that Anne Hathaway accepted her role in Havoc to avoid being typecast as the good girl in family-oriented, G-rated films. It all sounds great in theory but, in practice, it probably didn't help her career in any way. It's the story of a bunch of affluent white kids and their suburban gang, filled with members who walk, talk and behave like inner-city kids…until they get into a dispute with the inner-city kids, resulting in their lives unravelling faster than they could have ever imagined. While the movie has its fair share of problems, the main one is the fact that it's impossible to care about any of the characters since not a single person in the movie has anything that in any way would resemble a redeeming value. Havoc is one of those rare movie oddities, a film that is so irritating at times that it's hard to watch. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review steve d It works because of Anne Hathaway who shows the first signs of the incredible actress she will become. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review ryan s 2.5/5. Anne Hathaway gives a solid performance, but most of Havoc is cringy and embarrassing. Some of it is supposed to be that way (i.e. white, rich high-schoolers acting gangsta), but some of it is not (how the movie handles some dark themes). All in all, not a movie that you need to watch, but there are definitely worse films. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member What a waste of Anne Hathaway's talent. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review Audience Member Funny how much more famous the actors playing the background gangsters got than the one playing the leader. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/22/23 Full Review Audience Member 11/11/2016: Just an ok movie. A really great cast with a decent plot, but other than the beauty of Hathaway it wasn't all that entertaining or intense. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review Read all reviews
